Sew Cute

I may want it to be fall, but sadly the weather is still as hot as can be. On the bright side I still have plenty of opportunities to wear my Lilly pieces before it gets to cold outside. My huge package of items from the Lilly After Party Sale (I unboxed it live on my Instagram story!) and I instantly wanted to wear everything. So, here is my first OOTD post featuring this adorable citrus print Lilly dress. 

This dress is super casual and comfortable and is perfect for everyday wear. Some of my Lilly dresses I love, but they are more fancy. So, this time around during the sale I made sure to pick up more casual pieces I could wear whenever. 

I love this print because it is so colorful and bright. That's one of the reasons I love wearing Lilly, it just brightens your day! While I was wearing this dress down in Lawrence I even bonded with one of workers in a store because she had an equally bright Lilly dress on! 

To accessorize the look I kept things pretty simple. I wore this Kendra Scott pendent necklace, simple gold Jack Rogers, and some bangles. With such a bold print keeping the accessories simple is key. I also pulled out this older Michael Kors bag and I think I'm starting to love it again! It's super small but it's perfect for carrying your bare essentials.

After being in my new apartment for about 3 weeks things are finally coming together! My living area is super small, so it's been the room that has come together the fastest. It's a pretty basic living room: coach, coffee table, TV, and a TV stand. But, I've decorated things just how I like them to make the space cozy and personalized. Purple is my favorite color so that is the main accent throughout the room. Here is a quick little tour of my cozy living room! 

(Note: My apartment came fully furnished. If I bought a piece of furniture it will be noted. )

I loved styling my little TV stand. It serves as for both decoration and function. In the bottom right hand corner I store all of my textbooks so they are easily reachable. But, they also make a nice stack to add some decor. Along the bottom I also have a Tory Burch shoe box, my journal from studying abroad, a One Direction teddy bear (because I'm still a huge fan), a box from Laudree, and a framed photo. On the top shelf I keep my more decorative books that lean up against a candle. To add a few fun touches I placed my Chip Disney mug and a silver pug figure. This shelf also holds my washi tapes I use in my planner. I found these fun baskets for 90% off at Hobby Lobby that work great! 

(Note: The green accent wall comes with my unit... definitely not my first choice in color but it'll have to do.) 

Styling my coffee table was something I was super excited about! Although mine is small I keep this stack of magazine and books to add a pop of pink. My Kate Spade coffee table book is finally on a coffee table which is also pretty exciting. I know only I get excited about coffee table books, but they are just so fun! On top I put this Bath and Body Works candle for added decor. 

I picked up this textured pillow back my freshman year for my dorm. Now it's perfect for my apartment! The London pillow is from Hobby Lobby that I picked up on sale this summer.

School is in full swing and things are already getting crazy! I've finished up my first two weeks of Senior year (which is crazy!) and my classes/ activities are starting to pick up. So, here is a little update on what's been going on in my world on Instagram. 

My amazing boyfriend brought me these beautiful flowers and I couldn't help but share! I swear he is a part time floralist because he arranged these himself. 

A while back I shopped the Lilly After Party sale and scored some amazing deals. The Lilly Gods blessed me because I didn't have class the day of the sale. So I was ready right at 7am to shop! It worked out perfectly. Although I wasn't able to shop in store I got a ton of great things. 

Another year at Iowa State means another year as a Rowdy Gentleman rep!! Rowdy Gentleman has been such a huge part of my college experience and I can't wait to close out my senior year with Grandex. Third times a charm! Can't wait for exciting RG events throughout the semester.

This past weekend I visited my boyfriend at The Unviersity of Kansas for the first time this school year. I went to my first KU football game which was fun! It's totally different then Iowa State but it was cool to see how a school does football differently.

Gallery walls are kind of my jam. To be honest my apartment is covered in them. But, I can't help it they are so fun and can be very easy to do! I'm going to share my tips and tricks of how to create your dream gallery wall for your dorm, apartment, or even home. 

Tip 1: Collect! Almost all of the things I include in my gallery wall were post cards or pictures I've saved from my travels abroad. But, you don't have to go abroad to get materials like this! You can save greeting cards, postcards, anything to save and frame. 

Tip 2: Don't spend a lot of money! Don't feel the need to spend hundreds of dollars on real art work or prints off of Etsy. Hobby Lobby or other craft stores are a great resource to find prints or art work on sale. When Hobby Lobby had 50% off art work I picked up this adorable gold pineapple that looks like an expensive print. The black and white polka dot and striped print is actual a free postcard I picked up at a Kate Spade store. Doing a DIY gallery wall can be affordable! Just get your frames on sale and be creative for your art work. 

Tip 3: Utilize printables! There are a lot of free printables out there on Pinterest or on artists websites. If you don't want to spend any money do some research and find your own graphics and simply print. 

Tip 4: Personalize it. Use photos of your friends, craft canvases, or find items from local shops to include in your gallery wall for a more personalized look.

Baseball is not usually my thing, but I had the opportunity to go to a rooftop Cubs game with my boyfriends family and it was so fun! The rooftops are outside of the stadium but, you have a perfect view of Wrigley Field without paying to be in the stadium. The rooftop was super nice and we had a delicious lunch and snacks all day. 

Since I am not an avid baseball fan, I didn't want to spend money on purchasing Cubs apparel. So, I simply sported red and blue for a spirited look. Luckily, the day before my Lauren James shorts came in the mail from the Pink Friday sale! These bow shorts are oh sew cute and I love the seersucker fabric. I paired the shorts with a simple scallop white tank to keep the look simple. For a pop of red I wore my Fraternity Collection baseball cap! This past weekend I was lucky enough to host a Teen Vogue Back to Campus party with some of my friends! Teen Vogue sent us a TON of goodies from Land's End, Maybelline, Garnier Frutis, Clean and Clear, and more! And of course we all got copies of the fabulous September issue. 

We snacked, snapped, photos, and chatted and it was super fun! In the past I've hosted Teen Vogue parties as a part of their Teen Vogue It Girls program. Every time they have been oh-so generous and sent me awesome goodies and freebies to share with my friends. 

I hosted the party at my apartment and decked it out in fun decorations they sent us. To make a DIY photo booth I used the red table cloth as a photo backdrop. Then I hung fun tissue decorations and balloons everywhere! Not to mention these adorable photo booth props were super fun for photos.
