Preppy Diaries: Floral Fun

The normal college student would dress down for finals week. But, I believe in the "look good feel good philosophy". If I'm in a dress or skirt maybe I will be less likely to fall asleep in my 7:30 am final.... actually I probably would still fall asleep. However, I would be dressed up and cute doing it!

This look incorporates one of my favorite pieces in my wardrobe right now. It is a tank skirt from J Crew. This skirt literally matches everything and it is super comfortable and practical. I paired it with a linen J Crew tee with a fun floral print on it. To accent the floral print I wore a bold flower statement necklace. It adds a bunch of color along with some texture. To keep myself warm I wore a green cargo jacket. This is one of my go-to pieces if I need a light jacket for the spring weather. Other accessories I wore include Kate Spade bow earrings and my favorite pair of Sperry's.

Winter to Spring

Is it winter or spring? I'm not sure....

In between winter and spring there is that awkward time when you have no idea what to wear. I feel your pain I really do. So here are some outfit ideas to help you get through this weird time of the year.

Your best friend during this time is layering. If you have a few layers on you can stay warm in the morning when it is colder then you can take them off when it is warmer in the afternoon.

A go to outfit you can use is a pair of fun colored jeans and a denim top. This is a great alternative to just throwing on some yogas. You can role up your sleeves or even cuff your jeans if you are feeling a little hot. But throw on a cardigan or a vest if you a little chilly. Pair your jeans a shirt with a fun pair of dangle earrings and some patterned sneakers (Keds are my go-to sneakers).

Another outfit idea is a fun floral dress and a oversize cargo jacket. This way you can wear your new floral dress you have been dying to wear but you won't freeze in the process. Pair your dress with a pair of neutral ankle booties to complete the look. For final touches add some Alex and Ani bangles for a boho vibe.

Hope these outfit ideas helped you!

Spring Must Haves: Shoes

Spring is here! Well at least it feels like that here in Ames. So here are some spring shoes that you have to get your hands on.

Jonathan Alder TOMS: The TOMS are so adorable! I love the chevron pattern and the bold colors. These would be super fun to pair with shorts or jeans on a spring or even summer day.
Pointy Toe Flat: I have noticed a lot of pointy toe flats for this season. These jelly flats are cute and are a great neutral shoe to have. Pair these with a fun skirt or dress on a warm day for a super fun look.
Fun Espadrille: Espadrilles are a major shoe trend this season. Whether they are flats or heels the espadrille is the way to go. I really like this sea foam green pair from Nordstrom!

Neutral Wedge Sandal: Every girl needs a neutral pair of wedges. These ones have both brown and white which will go with anything you may have in your closet!
Strappy Sandal: I am loving these strappy sandals! These would be perfect for wearing around campus in the spring. And they are gold so I automatically love them.

Spotlight: Peter Pilotto X Target for Target

Target has done it again.....
Target has yet another collaboration in stores right now! This collab is not only bold, colorful, and graphic but it is super chic. The collaboration is with Peter Pilotto and it incorporates a lot of colors and patterns into the garments. You may be thinking that you can't pull off these looks. But, in reality they are super fun and are great for spring or even supper. I can picture someone wearing these pieces with things that they already own to tone them down.

{Ad campaigns for the collection. These are super bold and eye catching!}

Here are 6 outfit ideas incorporating the Peter Pilotto collection at Target. Almost everything you see you can purchase at Target! It's a one stop shop. But other pieces are from Forever 21 and other affordable stores.

My favorite look is the dress in the lower right corner! It is super bold and has a great print.

So be sure to check out your Target for the collaboration!

Burberry Spring 2014

Burberry takes spring with pastels and details.
Recently, I have been obsessing over various fashion weeks and designer collections. Burberry's spring collection is for sure no exception. This collection is full of unique textures and patterns mixed with one of my favorite classic spring trends, pastels.

The look on the left worn by Cara is one of my favorite looks from the collection. I love how the jacket is see through. It's something that is usually not done but I am kind of obsessed with the idea of a cute and chic rain coat. Also, the look on the right is perfect in my eyes. It has my two favorite colors purple and green incorporated into the look.

{Cara= perfection!}

{Loving all the detail work on the skirts of the collection. I like how they make a pattern from sequins and gems against the lace or sheer skirt.}

Burberry Spring 2014 Inspired Makeup Look

Burberry's spring collection included a super pink and simple makeup look. THis look is super easy to re-create and would be perfect for any spring day.

What you will need:
  1. An eyeshadow base: this will help you pink color really stand out on your eyelids. However this step isn't needed.
  2. Some sort of pink eyeshadow: pink eyeshadow is the main focus of this look. You can use multiple pink shades to create a more dimensional look or you can simply use one shade.
  3. A light pink lipstick: in the eye look it shows a light natural pink lip color so just use something that you already have. Or use a slightly tinted pink lip balm.

Steps:
  1. First apply your basic foundation routine. This may include concealer, foundation, and a pressed powder.
  2. Next take your eye shadow primer and apply it to your eye lids. This will make your pink eyeshadow more pigmented and help it stand out.
  3. Then it is time to apply your pink eyeshadow! First apply a coral pink shade. This will be your base color. After take a brighter pink shade to accent the center of your lid. This will create a super unique eye look for spring.
  4. After applying your shadows to your lid take a thin brush and apply the same base shadow under your lower lash line. This will create a smokey yet light eye look.
That is your completed Burberry inspired look! This look is not only super pink but nice and fresh for spring.

OOTD: Nautical Gal

The weather outside.... isn't frightful! In Ames yesterday we had a sudden change in weather which mean't I ditched the winter coat and snow boots for a much needed change in style.

My outfit included a new purchase from the Gap factory store. I am loving this anchor sweater! Not only is it preppy but it is super classic and a great layering piece. It features navy anchors and is super adorable! It was on sale for around $25 which was a great steal for this sweater.
I paired the sweater with a simple denim button down. It creates a fun and classic look.

To add some color I wore a bright pair of red jeans. This adds to the overall nautical theme of the look. For accessories I wore my favorite pearl necklace and earrings. To finish the look I wore my new Sperry's that I purchased recently.

Jeans: American Eagle
Shoes: Sperry Top Sider

Pink Peonies

Pink Peonies are Blair Waldorf's favorite flower. So, naturally I had to create some outfits inspired by them.......

Pink is a super girly and feminine color. These two looks are full of pink and floral touches.

The first look is a little more dressy. This would be ideal for work, a nice dinner, or if you just like to dress up (aka people like me!). The button down shirt has a beautiful beaded detail which makes it unique from a plain shirt. I paired it with a floral pencil skirt which is super feminine. For accessories of course you need Kate Spade! Both the shoes and the bag are a fun pop of color and sparkle to the look.

However, the second look is a little more casual. I paired this bold graphic print shirt with a floral scarf. There is a lot of pattern in the look but it all kind of works together. Pairing the top with a simple pair of jeans and ankle booties makes it a super casual and easy look. Add a bold pink lip to brighten up the look in addition to a hot pink satchel! I have seen this satchel a lot in the blogging world and it is adorable! This look is less feminine then the other put it is still super fun and bright. I think there is always a way to incorporate pink into a look no matter what your style is. From light blush pink to a dark deep pink there is a shade for everyone!

Pink Peonies

{Can we all get pink peonies from Chuck Bass? That would be an amazing day.}

Disney Week: Alice and Wonderland

Day 2: Alice and Wonderland

Alice and Wonderland is such a whimsical movie. Here is a funny picture I found with a floral crown. Who knew the cat would predict such a fashion trend.

This look was inspired by this picture and the overall feel of the movie. I wanted something that was whimsical, fun, and floral.

I paired a striped basic top with just a simple pair of jeans. With a bold and colorful necklace it gives the look a fun touch. Then a simple flower crown to add to your hair look to add an extra touch. Pair your ensemble with a pair of ballet flats (like Alice's in the movie!) and a fun floral bag.

Overall, Alice and Wonderland is a crazy and out there movie. So, mixing patterns and colors is a great way to draw inspiration from the movie.
