What I Wore: Halloween

For Halloween this year I was dying to dress up as a donut! I ordered a donut costume off of Target, but of course it was backordered until November 17th. So, last minute I threw together this fun donut costume!

I simply bought a styrofoam ring and covered it in brown and pink felt. Then I decorated it with fun pom pom sprinkles and added tulle to hang around my neck. To complete the look I drew a donut on my cheek with brown eyeliner and lipstick and threw on an all black look.

Here are a few other last minute ideas that you can pull together in time for trick or treating tonight..... (that are better then being a cat!

Audrey Hepburn or Marilynn Monroe: Throw on a black or white dress (depending if your blonde or brunette) to be one of Hollywood's classic beauties. Put your hair in a bun for Audrey or create a mock bob for Marilynn. Add accessories like pearls or red lipstick to complete the look.

Blair or Serena: Pair a button down, plaid skirt, knee high socks, and shoes for a fun school girl Blair or Serena inspired look. If you choose to be Queen B don't forget a headband!

Disney Princess: Wear a colored dress to reflect your favorite princess! Blue for Cinderella, pink for Aurora, yellow for belle, and so on. You don't need a store bought Disney costume to pull of the princess look.

Tourist: A cheesy, but good costume is the classic tourist. Throw on a tacky Hawaiian shirt, socks with sandals, and some khaki shorts for an easy look you can make with pieces in your closet.

What are you being for Halloween? Let me know in the comments!

Weekend Snapshots

This weekend is Iowa States homecoming! I am so excited to take part in all of the festivities, but sad because it is my last homecoming as an Iowa State student. But, regardless it is going to be an awesome weekend! Last weekend I went to KU for their homecoming. I had a fun weekend shopping, going to the homecoming parade, and tailgating. Here are a few snapshots from my weekend!

My boyfriend and I celebrated an anniversary so he picked me up a Yeti tumblr with my monogram on it! It's hard to see but it is coated in a Tiffany blue glitter color. Ever since I got it I can't stop using it. Now I know why every guy is obsessed with Yeti! They seriously keep your water or beverage cold all day long.

I discovered a new stationery store on Mass Street and I am obsessed! I picked up a new desk calender as well as a notepad and pen. Also, I picked up an adorable thank you card for a friend!

These chairs were to cute not to snap a picture! On game day we went and got a slice of pizza at our favorite pizza place on Mass Street. Although it was a little chilly to sit outside I was loving the adorable bright blue chairs.

Ice cream is always a good idea! We headed to a local ice cream shop that hand makes all of their ice creams. We got a mocha flavored ice cream with Oreo and brownie pieces in a homemade waffle cone. It was so delicious!

OOTD: Fall Plaid

Plaid and fall are a great combination. I love how a touch of plaid makes any look cozy and relaxed. This little plaid dress is the perfect fall dress! It looks good without tights on warm days but looks great styled with a oversize sweater and tights on chilly days. I've worn it so many times this season I can't get enough of it.

This time I paired it with a fun Fraternity Collection hat. I love these hats! As a Fraternity Collection rep I've been loving the simple design of their bowtie hats. Be sure to use the code "mirandapollitt16" for a discount off your Fraternity Collection order.

I wore this fun casual look to walk around downtown Lawrence, KS on Massachusetts Street. There are a ton of cute little shops and fun restaruants to explore. I picked up some new stationery from a new shop I discovered as well as got a fun anniversary gift with my boyfriend at my favorite shop Prairie Patches.

My Fall Must-Haves

Fall is officially in full swing. There are a few pieces I cannot live without during the fall: a classic white button down, military inspired green jacket, a printed dress, and anything striped!

White button down: A white button down is a classic that everyone should own, in my opinion. Whether I pair it with a simple pair of jeans and a vest or with a skirt and tights a white button down is the definition of versatile.

Green utility jacket: A classic green utility jacket is a key piece in my fall wardrobe. Dark green is the perfect fall neutral to pair with any look. Plus for warmer fall days I wear it as a light coat. My utility jacket is from J Crew, but purchase a utility jacket that suits your personal style. There are so many out there that there is one for everyone!

Printed dress: Fun printed dresses are great to wear with tights and boots during the fall. During the fall I live in dresses, they are super comfortable and easy to throw on for class. Wear tights to keep your legs warm and throw on a cozy cardigan for extra layering if necessary.

Striped t-shirt: Stripes are a neutral for me. Anything striped, specifically easy striped tees are great for an easy fall look. Pair them with a skirt, jeans, or chino pants for a simple but polished look. Channel your inner Parisian and pair it with a neck scarf, jeans, and sneakers for a cute girly look!

OOTD: Graffiti Wall

For a fun Sunday brunch and day downtown Des Moines I mixed things up with this fun pastel blue leather jacket. I wanted a look that could work in the warmer fall weather that was fun and comfortable. A simple circle skirt with a striped top keeps things casual yet comfy. By adding a leather jacket overtop I added an edgy touch to the otherwise girly look.

I love this jacket because of its unique color! Back in the summer I picked it up at Zara for a super great price (got to love a good sale).

While wondering around Des Moines we found these amazing graffiti walls behind the Des Moines Social club. There are some amazing murals showcasing crazy talented artists and add a splash of color to the Des Moines city. I couldn't help but snap a few pictures in front of them! All of this graffiti reminds me of the London street art scene and makes me wish I could go back even more then usual.

Pairing a casual tee and skirt with a leather jacket is a great fall look. It keeps things casual but dressy without trying to hard. This jacket is super comfortable and can be worn in so many different ways. Even with my preppy pieces, a leather jacket can go with anyones signature style.

Where it's from:
Jacket: Zara
Skirt: Forever 21
T-shirt: J Crew
Tights: Charming Charlie's
Boots: Michael Kors
Earrings: Kate Spade
Bracelets: Alex and Ani, Kate Spade
Location: Des Moines Social Club

Pumpkin Patch Snapshots

I was feeling major fall vibes from a day at the pumpkin patch. Bright orange and red were everywhere and I was loving it! Gourds and pumpkins are my jam so I was in fall heaven. Here are a few snapshots of my trip to Center Grove Orchard...

I am a sucker for an adorable little vintage car (thanks Dad). This red truck was to cute to not snap a picture of!

At the pumpkin patch my mom and I picked up a carmel apple, apple cider donuts, apple butter, fudge, a bag of apples, and some tiny gourds for my apartment. We went a little crazy, but it's a once a year ordeal!

My Jadelynn Brooke long sleeve tee was perfect for a casual day at the pumpkin patch. Use the code ISUMP16 for 15% off your total Jadelynn Brooke purchase.

Des Moines Snapshots- Bubba, Des Moines Social Club, and more!

This past weekend my mom came into town for a little girls weekend! We shopped and explored Des Moines and took a trip to the local pumpkin patch. During our trip to Des Moines we went to the hot restaurant Bubba which serves southern comfort food. The food was delicious and the interiors of the restaurant were gorgeous! From the adorable bar to the fun "bless your heart" statement wall every last detail was adorable.

This bar was so gorgeous! I just wanted to get a mint julep and sit there all day.

After brunch we went to take some blog photos behind the Des Moines Social Club. There are a ton of graffiti walls created by local artists. I loved seeing all of the different graffiti murals! It made me miss the street art of London.

We also stopped in West End Salvage which is a vintage store that re-purposes a ton of old pieces into new furniture and decor. These chandeliers were so so pretty! There were so many unique pieces in there it was so fun exploring. Fun fact: there was a rose ceremony at West End Salvage on Chris's season of the Bachelor!

At Bubba I got the fried chicken which was delicious! It was so juicy but so crunchy, YUM. I highly recommend Bubba to anyone in Des Moines. My mom got the buckwheat pancakes and she loved them as well.
