Preppy Diaries: Polos and Pearls

Country club ready!
For a day of shopping I decided to go super preppy in my outfit. What else is new? I love this combo because it is super classic and girly. The polo I am wearing is a cute Tiffany blue color and has a gingham blue color with rick rack trim details. Overall, I love the top and it was a great price when I bought it at the Brooks Brothers outlet. I paired the polo with my FAVORITE skirt I think of all time. This skirt is a great basic and literally goes with everything. I highly suggest getting one because they are the perfect basic to have in your wardrobe. Even if you get a unique color you will always find yourself reaching for it!

For accessories I kept things classic with a multi strand pearl necklace and Kate Spade bow earrings. My bracelet stack includes multiple Alex and Ani bracelets, a must have for me, and a pearl bracelet from J Crew. Of course I have to wear my Michael Kors watch as well. I feel lost without it! Then to complete the look I wore a simple pair of Sperry Topsiders.

{Love the layered pearl necklace agains the polo! Makes for a super classic combo.}

Summer Style: How to style high waisted shorts

"Never trashy always classy"
Sometimes high waisted shorts aren't always worn in the classiest of ways. Exposes to much midriff or booty isn't always the best idea. So, what are some ways to wear your high waisted shorts in a cute and classy way? Well, I have three looks that will solve all of our worries!

A fancy top: Pair your high waisted shorts with a classic short sleeve blouse. Pick something with a fun print to make it seem less drab and more fab! I love this patterned shirt from J Crew. I would call it tribal chic. Pair your shirt with a fun statement necklace and a leather sandal for a classic look perfect for any summer day

Metallic accessories: Have a darker denim short? Well pair it with fun gun metal accessories to make your look super chic and sophisticated. For a top wear a longer crop top to make sure you only see a peak of your midriff.

Striped shirt: I am a huge fan of a striped shirt. Style a classic pair of high waisted shorts with this classic basic for a fun and simple look. Add a dash of color with a bold ballet flat for a girly touch. Complete your look with a statement earring and high pony tail for the ultimate girly girl summer look.

OOTD: Aqua Maxi

Deep in blue
Recently I have been wearing this aqua color a lot. I'm not sure why but I seem to be gravitating towards it! This OOTD features a aqua sheer maxi skirt paired with a simple striped crop top. I love this look because it is more simple then what I normally wear. It was a great outfit for grabbing some breakfast with a friend. For accessories I kept it pretty simple and just wore a pair of statement earrings from Baublebar. I have gotten a lot of use out of these earrings! They are great because they are black, grey, and white so they go with a lot of looks. Not to mention they are pretty neutral so I wear them a lot. For my other accessories I kept it with my everyday bangles and watch. My bag is a recent purchase that I did a post on! My shoes are simple sandals that have both gold and silver. These are my go-to sandal and they are super comfortable. They are from Target and might I say Target makes a great sandal! I always get mine on super clearance for around $7-$9.

Favorite Makeup Products!

Makeup is a girls best friend
I thought I would share my favorite makeup products! Most of these I have been using for at least a year. I love them all dearly. Also, basically all of these I use everyday.
Enjoy :)

Face Products: For face products I usually stick with either Maybelline or Covergirl. My favorite foundation of all time is the Covergirl outlast stay fabulous. It is considered a three in one foundation so it has foundation, concealer, and primer. I am VERY loyal to this foundation and highly recommend it! My current powder that I have had for a while is the Maybelline Fit Me powder. I don't think there can really be a bad powder, unless its chalky, but I really do like this powder! For bronzing products I have used Estee Lauder's bronze goddess for ever. This bronzer has probably lasted me at least 3 or 4 years. It's really good and is matte which is nice. Recently, I picked up Maybelline's Master Hi-Light in nude and I love it. It is a nice mix between a bronzer and a highlight. For concealer I use either my Physicians Formula stick concealer or a liquid Mary Kay concealer. Both work great and cover up blemishes well.
My shades: Ivory Covergirl foundation , Ivory Maybelline powder, Light Physicians Formula concealer,  Nude Master Hi-Light, Bronze Goddess bronzer.
Fit Me powder | Master Hi-Light | 3-1 Foundation | Concealer (similar) | bronzer

Eye Products: For eyes I mainly use three palletes. One is a Mary Kay trio that has a shimmery creme, plum, and dark purple shade. It is from the Mary Kay Play collection. Another palette I use a lot is a Lorac pallette. I'm not sure the name of it because it doesn't say on the package. But I love the neutral tones it has! Another palette I use often is the Stila watercolor palette (limited addition). It has great green and smokey eye tones. For mascaras I like Rimmel London and Covergirl products. My current favorites are the Covergirl clump crusher and the Rimmel London Scandal Eyes Flex. For eyeliner I either use a gel Rimmel London liner or Maybelline's master precise liquid eyeliner. For my base I usually use a creme eye shadow. My all time favorite is Benefit's R.S.V.P. It is a gorgeous pearl shimmery shade and looks good under basically everything. I am also a big fan of the Maybelline color tattoo's, my favorite color is Inked in Pink

Lorac Downtown palette | Mary Kay trio | Stila Watercolor palette

Cheek Products: I am a blush person! I love the different shades of pink you can get with blush. Three of my favorite blushes are from NYX. Their stick blushes are great! They last a long time and are easy to apply. I simply apply it with the applicator then blend it in with my finger. I also love their powder blushes. Two other blushes I love are Milani's Luminoso and Physicians Formula's Happy Boost blush in Pink. All of these are great light shades and are perfect for everyday wear.

My Shades: NYX stick blush in Orchid and Tea Rose, NYX powder blush in Pinched, Physicians Formula powder blush in Pink, and Milani's powder blush in Luminoso.

Look out for a most on my favorite lip products! (There is too many top put in this post!)

Beauty Bar: Maleficent Inspired Look

First, I would like to welcome you to a new series of mine called Beauty Bar! Every wednesday I will be posting a new beauty feature. It can range from hair and makeup looks to my favorite products! I thought I would incorporate more beauty related posts to my blog to mix it up once a week. If you have any requests for looks you want me to re-create/ other post ideas email me at mirandapollitt@gmail.com
Thanks and enjoy <3

A dark beauty look.....
Teen Vogue has a contest going on (still a few days left to enter!) to create a makeup look inspired by Maleficent the new Disney movie that comes out in a few days (aka May 30th). For my look I decided to go very dramatic but still wearable. What to get this dark and evil look? Well, here are the steps!

Makeup
1. Apply your normal foundation routine. This includes both your foundation and powder for me. Your next step is to apply a dark blush. Make it pretty bold to frame your face and give it color. Maleficent is generally fair skinned so skip the bronzer for this look!
2. Next it is time for the eyes. I first applied a creme shadow so that the colors will show up better on my lids. The same effect can be given if you use an eye primer. Next I took a white shimmery shade and put it in the inner corner of my eye. Following that I took two shades of green and layered them on the outer part of my lid. I blended them together to get a dark green color. For the crease I took a dark black color then blended it with a blending brush.
3. For eyeliner create a small wing with a liquid eyeliner pen. Keep your line thin up until the outer part of your eye. Then create a thicker line for the cat eye. To finish the eyes apply your favorite mascara generously.
4. The last step in this evil look is to apply a dark maroon or red lipstick. This will give the finishing touch the look needs!

Look out for an upcoming Beauty Bar post on how to get this teased bun look!

{The completed look!}

OOTD: Edgier then usual....

A not so preppy look
For this look I decided to mix it up from my usual preppy get up to something with a little more edge. I paired a distressed denim shirt with a black burnout skirt. The skirt has a fun ruffle on the bottom which keeps the look still girly enough. For accessories I wore a fun statement necklace (as usual), a jelly chain bracelet, and a pair of fun strappy sandals. I kept my lipstick a dark red color to go along with the overall darker look. Might I add I was having a great hair day! Using a curling wand I made light wavy curls in my hair.

Graduation Party Outfit Ideas

It's grad party season!
Its that time of year again where there are a ton of grad parties! The question is, what should you wear to all of these parties? Well, you know there will be endless pictures so you want to be sure to look super cute! So here are 3 grad party ready outfit ideas to inspire you.
{I linked liked items below each look!}

Look one: This look is for a more dressy party. Wear a simple maxi dress with some fun accessories like a colored wedge, stud earrings, and a cute cross body bag. Even though this look is a little more dressy it is steal casual enough where you won't feel weird.

Look two: Looking for a more casual look? Well pair a fun sheer blouse or any top really with a more classic chino short. This way you look pulled together but your still wearing shorts! Accessorize with a fun statement necklace and a pair of patterned sneakers for a cute laid back look.

Look three: For a look in between casual and dressy pair a simple shirt and skirt together. Jazz it up with fun accessories like a light printed scarf and rhinestone sandals. This look is super classic and cute!

Preppy Diaries: Knotted Up

All tied up!
For this look I decided to layer my denim short sleeve shirt over this white lace dress. The dress kind of acts as a skirt in a way. To achieve this look I simply just tied the bottom of my shirt into a knot and placed it a little above my hips. I love the look it creates! I paired my layered pieces with simple gold accessories including gold bow earrings, a pearl bracelet, and a few Alex and Ani bangles of course. For shoes I wore a neutral pair of Sperry Top-Siders that have gold detailing. It was super hot this day so I decided to go straight to a high sleek pony tail. I love styling my hair like this when it is super hot. It keeps down the frizz!

Met Gala Favorites!

I'm a bit late to the party....
So, I know the Met Gala was a while ago, but I totally forgot to post some of my favorite looks from the red carpet. I love looking at all of the celebrities dressed up in gorgeous high end gowns. Here are a few of my favorites from the night!

Who doesn't love Emma Stone? Exactly, no one! I love her in this two piece pink ensemble. She looks sexy without having a billion cut outs and a huge slit in her dress. Also, I am loving her hair in a fishtail side braid.

If you don't like Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds... I don't know what to say. But, Blake looked gorgeous in this blush pink gown and it helps that she is walking with perfection. (basically they are both perfection though)

I think Hailee Steinfeld is one of the most adorable people ever! And this dress is no exception. Every time she walks the red carpet I love what she is wearing. She always looks classy, sophisticated, and but together.

Shailene Woodley looks gorgeous in this Valentino dress. I love the different metallics and textures that are incorporated into the design.

What I'm Reading

I'm reading.... this is weird
So, I am not the type of person who is always reading a novel or a good book. I have two books that I really love but besides that I don't read.... like ever! But, as you ALL probably know the movie The Fault In Our Starts is coming out soon, and I have heared nothing but good things about the book. I decided to do the normal thing and read the book before I saw the movie. I am a little bit over half way through the book and it is so good! I can hardly put it down. Normally I read a chapter or two before I go to bed and I have been loving it. It's a great way to relax after a long day. I won't be a spoiler and tell you anything about the book because I want everyone to read it. But, I do know everyone who has read it bawls their eyes out at the end so I am mentally preparing myself to loose it! However the book is really well written and the characters have a great wit and humor that I really love. SO GO READ IT! And I literally can't wait to see the movie now!

OOTD: Inner Hippie

Alter ego?
Sometimes I like to mix up my style from my normal preppy looks and do something a little more edgy or boho. This outfit is one of those days! I got this super cute maroon tulle dress at a boutique in Iowa when I was visiting my friend. It is super fun and playful and can be styled in a lot of different ways. For this look I decided to keep it more edgy. To keep myself warm I layered the dress with an embroidered denim button down. It has a slight tribal pattern which gives the look a little edge. To make it seem not so oversized I tied the sides up into little nots. I love doing this because it keeps the shirt out of your way and makes it a little more girly. For jewelry I layered a short necklace and a very long chain. The chain has jewels that range in colors then the short necklace is a single spike dagger situation. For shoes I simply wore a pair of gold and silver sandals from Target.

However, my hair is what really makes the look a little more not myself! I decided to try and mix up the normal messy bun that morning. So, I made two pigtails super close to each other on the top of my head. Then I teased both pig tails then wrapped the hair around the elastic band to create two textured buns. I slightly pushed them together to create a kind of combined bun look. At first I didn't know how it would turn out but it actually looks super cute, messy, and playful. Normally I am a very slick sleek bun, mainly because I danced for 14 years (I have to have everything neat!), so this was definitely a change for my hair!
