College Series: Study Break Tips

Finding the best time to take a study break can be challenging. Since midterms are right around the corner (or currently happening) I thought I would give a few fast tips that you can incorporate into your study routine!

  1. Watch a Youtube video: Whenever I need a quick break I pull up Youtube and watch a few videos in my subscription. This way you can have a 10-15 minute break without the commitment of watching an whole episode of a show which could be 30-60 minutes long!
  2. Eat a snack: Usually when I'm studying I get super hungry! Take a few minutes and pop a bag of popcorn, run and go through a drive through, or make a healthy snack (if thats your thing). Once I eat a little something I am more likely to study! No one likes to study on an empty stomach.
  3. Read a chapter: Currently I am trying to start the book Dirty Rush that I was sent through my Grandex rep program! To take a quick study break read a chapter in a book you are working on or that you want to read. Reading a chapter can take about 20 min so this is a great if you need to get your mind off a hard class and escape for a bit.
Those are a few quick study break tips of mine! What are your favorite study breaks? Let me know in the comments!

College Series: 3 things I've learned this semester

As a sophomore I am still figuring out how college works. I'm still making mistakes, figuring out what I want to do with my life, and just trying to survive. But, there are a few things I have learned this semester so far that I find important to share. Whether you are a freshman, a senior in high school, or whatever take these lessons into account. Maybe I can prevent someone from worrying or making the same mistakes as me!

  1. It's okay to change your plan. When I first came to college I thought I for sure knew what I was going to do. I wanted to major in apparel design and double in journalism. Well, as a first semester sophomore I am now an apparel merchandizing and public relations major. Although its not a drastic change its still a pretty big change to my original plan. I never thought I would be the person to change my major. But I did. And you know what, it's okay! Basically, its okay to not know exactly what your doing all the time. For a few semesters its okay to be all over the place. Sure you have to collect yourself eventually but don't rush it. I had an ah ha moment and I finally realized what I want to do. Your time will come and it will be great.
  2. Don't fall into old habits. This is more relating to boys but I found myself gravitating to old flings from last year. For what? I don't know! Go out and experience new things and people. The biggest waste of time is spending time on people or things that aren't worth it. If something or someone is getting old and dragging you down get rid of them/ it! Whatever your old habit may be (person, thing, or actual habit) it's not worth repeating. Out with the old and in with the new!
  3. Don't take 8 am classes. This may seem like an obvious thing but I underestimated the 8 ams. Well in my defense my class schedule was kind of forced on me. BUT if you can avoid 8ams do it. This past semester I have had 4 and it has been hell. Waking up early 4 days in a row really becomes tiring. I find myself falling asleep around 8:30pm. That is just sad. Also, if I actually have to stay up late to do something I physically can't stay awake. Maybe I just suck at being a morning person, because trust me I do, but avoid 8ams at all cost. 9 ams are less evil take those.
Hopefully my lovely mistakes and lessons helped you out a bit. Or hopefully they provided some entertainment value. Do you have any lessons you learned this semester? Comment below I'd love to hear!

College Series: 10 things you need to do during Thanksgiving break

I am thankful for Thanksgiving break!
With Thanksgiving break or fall break approaching I'm starting to think of things that I want to do while I'm at home. Here is my top 10 list of things I will be doing over Thanksgiving break.
Count down: Less then a week till break!

  1. Hangout with your parents | I'm not sure about you but I never see my parents! So be sure to actually hangout with them while your home. I know I won't see my parents until Christmas basically after Thanksgiving. Of course hangout with your friends but hangout with your family as well!
  2. Eat a home cooked meal | I miss home cooked food SO much when I'm at school. Be super nice to whoever cooks you dinner so you can get a nice meal while your at home.
  3. Have a movie night on your coach | My coach has been calling my name all semester. I plan on cuddling up and watching some movies while I'm home. I miss my coach dearly and I intend on taking advantage of it while I'm home.
  4. Have a get together with friends from high school | Take advantage of your time at home and see your old friends! I love my friends from college but sometimes its nice catching up with old friends.
  5. See a movie | So many movies are coming out over Thanksgiving! Be sure to catch one of the new flicks that are premiering. I just realized that Horrible Bosses 2 comes out November 26th so you better believe I will be there.
  6. Eat at your favorite restaurant from home | If anyone reading this is from Chicago... I miss Portillos more then life itself. I intend on getting Portillos at least 3 times while I'm home. But, to be honest it will probably be more then that. Be sure to eat at your favorite hometown eats so you can survive the rest of the semester!
  7. Sleep | This semester I never sleep. Like ever. When I'm home I can't wait to curl up in my own bed and sleep the night (and day) away.
  8. Actually do some homework | Believe it or not breaks are a great way to stay organized and on top of your school work. Obviously take a nice break, but during break I intend on organizing for finals so I will do less work once I get back to school!
  9. Visit your old teachers | If your feeling sentimental visit your old high school teachers. I know I will probably be visiting my old dance team at some point so if your in the mood head back and say hi!
  10. Take a drive | I miss driving in my car. During break I can't wait just to drive around and blast some music for a bit. And by music I just mean the new Taylor Swift album because lets be honest thats all I listen too.
What do you plan on doing over Thanksgiving break? Let me know in the comments below!

College Diaries: Dorm Living

College Diaries:
Here are some pictures from my dorm room. I decorated it with the color scheme of purple, grey, black, and white. Almost everything is purple so I basically look like a crazy purple lady but that is just how I roll.

Above my bed I hung my monogram that I made. (I have a blog post on DIY dorm decorations) Also, I hung a variety of different pictures using twin and clothes pins that I painted.

Where everything is from:
Bed spread: Kate Spade at Bed Bath and Beyond
Pillows: TJ Maxx, Home Goods, and Target

Here is another one of my DIY decorations. I also hung a little sign from Hobby Lobby and a canvas Audrey picture from Meijer.

My desk has a lot of stuff on it. I have all of my makeup, perfumes and body sprays, school supplies, and some of my jewelry on my desk. I keep things organized in my own special way you could say.

This is under my lofted bed. I set up a temporary clothing rack to create more storage. Also, to display my favorite dresses. But I keep my coats, scarfs, and a jewelry organizer on the rack as well. On the right I hung a shoe organizer from my bed. It was meant for over the door but it works perfectly from my loft.

Where it's from:
Shoe organizer: Khols
Hamper: Home Goods
Scarf organizer: Container Store

This is our wardrobe area. It has some hanging space along with drawers. I hung this dress jewelry organizer from the outside along with my M that my friend made me. It makes the bare cabinet a little more fun and personalized.

College Diaries: Day 1 | Road Trip, exploring, and dinner.

College Diaries: Road Trip, Exploring, and Dinner
Hello everyone! I'm so sorry for getting behind on my blog. I have been rushing all week and moving into my dorm room so things have been CRAZY to say the least! But here are some pictures of college adventures so far.

Friday August 16th:
So this was the day I moved in before school. My parents and I went to a nice dinner and explored the campus a little bit!

My new home at school. Can't wait to get started with everything!

My car was packed to say the least! This isn't even everything I took. A friend of mine brought a U-Haul so she brought some of my stuff. I was pretty squished but I need my stuff. A girls gotta do what a girls gotta do right?

This is my road trip attire. I think dresses are just the most comfortable thing but hey that's just me.
Where it's from:
Dress: My friend brought back from Taiwan
Shoes: Keds
Necklace: Dry Goods
Bracelets: Dry Goods and Alex and Ani
Sunglasses: Dry Goods

This was my dinner at the restaurant we ate at in Ames. The restaurant is super good and has a lot of specials and everything is locally grown.

Stay tuned for more College Diaries there are many more to come!

College Diaries: Laptop Accessories

College Diaries: Laptop Accessories
So, I have basically every type of accessory from bracelets, belts, necklaces, and everything in between. Of course I had to deck out my laptop just as well as I deck out myself!

I order this purple laptop cover off of amazon for about $15. It not only protects your laptop but it also makes it your favorite color (mine being purple of course). Also, it came with a super cute key board cover so now my keys are also purple.

Off of Etsy I ordered two stickers. First is a 1D sticker to represent my favorite band and to be the major fan-girl that I am. Gotta represent.
Also, I got a monogram sticker in purple. Surprisingly the purple of the sticker perfectly matches all the other purple accessories that I got. I love the way everything turned out and how it looks. My laptop is defiantly college ready and as I would like to say Miranda-fied

I also picked up a Marc by Marc Jacobs laptop sleeve at Nordstrom Rack. It was only around $35 which is basically 50% off the original retail value. The color is neutral so I know I won't get sick of it. I have been wanting one of these laptop sleeves for so long so I am glad I finally got one!

I move into college in less then 2 days! Time is flying by but I am excited to start a new journey.

College Diaries: Backpack

August 2nd, 2013:
College Diaries:
So today my backpack came in the mail! I ordered this off Kipling's website. It is the backpack with the laptop sleeve and I chose a purple color. The backpack is made out of a nylon material.
Here is a link to my backpack:
I got this backpack on sale and it was around $80. Then I also got free shipping when I ordered it.

The front zip compartment has a bunch of tiny slots as well as a clip to hold keys.
On the top of the backpack it has a place for your phone or iPod.

A cute detail on all Kipling bags is the monkey key chain. I just think it's so cute!

The backpack's main compartment has a laptop sleeve  section a main section then another pocket area.

Overall I love this backpack! Of course I haven't used it yet but it is super cute and I love the color! When I start using it more and more I will try and remember to do a review on how it holds up and how much it holds.
Keep an eye out for more of my College Diaries series.
