Preppy Diaries: Stripes and Such

Preppy Diaries: Stripes and Such

Today, like most days, was another preppy outfit to add to the Preppy Diaries. This preppy look included one of my favorite preppy must haves, a Ralph Lauren oxford shirt.
These shirts literally go with everything! They are such a great investment to have in your closet.

With the oxford I wore a fun striped skirt. This skirt goes with so much and is surprisingly versatile. Of course I paired this look with a black bubble necklace. (the ultimate preppy girl accessory)

To add a splash of color I wore my bright blue oxfords. These shoes are super fun and also comfortable.

To finish off the look I added a darker pink red lip stain from Covergirl.
Fun fact: The guy checking me out at the on campus coffee shop said that I pulled off red lipstick. It kind of made my day (even though it wasn't red lipstick)

Towards the end of the day I wore my Marley Lilly baseball cap! It's the perfect preppy girl accessory.

Preppy Diaries: Ralph Lauren

July 27th, 2013:

Today I had yearbook pickup which for some reason I was kind of dreading. My friend and I didn't want to see anyone because lets face it, High School is over I'm kind of sick of everyone. Not to be mean but it's the truth. It goes along with the whole attitude "I just graduated and I'm SOOOOO done with High School things". In regardless, we still had to go so I might as well look cute for the occasion.

In Chicago it has been FREEZING recently. Sixty degree freezing people it is JULY. Last week it was 95 degrees. There is the Midwest for ya. So, later in the day I changed into jeans but with the sun out I could still pull off shorts.

Surprisingly I made it into the yearbook quite a few times and with a school of 4,000 people that is quite the accomplishment. I might take a few pictures of the pages but I won best dressed along with my college roommate out of all the seniors. Gotta represent my fashionista self of course. But, I will stop chatting and get into the outfit.

The Outfit: Again, me trying to be preppy. I think this look wins the most preppy so far. I am OBSESSED with this button down I got a while ago. It fits like a glove and is super comfy. Also, I think it will go with a lot of different looks both casual and formal. Then gotta have the bubble necklace. This one is a light pastel yellow.

Preppy Diaries: Chevron and Bubble Necklace

July 25th, 2013:

Today I kept things pretty casual. We went up to my Aunt's house who lives in Lake Forest for lunch (which was quite lovely might I add). Again, me trying to be preppy this is what I came up with.

The Outfit:
I paired this super cute chevron top with some simple tiffany blue colored shorts. This top is literally my obsession. I wish they made it in like every color because chevron is my favorite print at the moment. If it has chevron on it..... I want it. Then gotta have the classic J Crew inspired bubble necklace hanging out on my neck. Love this thing to death and it definitely fits the preppy bill. I paired the look with a darker pink lip stick/ stain from Mary Kay. (I wore a Covergirl outlast stain underneath it helped keep the lipstick in place all day)

Where it's from:
Top: American Eagle
Shorts: Aerie
Necklace: Charming Charlie's
I  also wore:
Ring and Earrings: Kate Spade
Bangles: Alex and Ani & Brighton
Shoes: Sam Eldeman

My Must Have Summer Accessories: Statement Necklaces

Statement Necklaces:
From bubble to bib statement necklaces have defiantly been making their mark on summer trends. Although, they have been a key part in fashion for a while now. Of course I fantasize over J Crews perfect neck candy. However not everyone has the budget for that (aka me). So, here are my statement necklace finds and favorites.

My favorites from my collection:
This gold piece is nice and chunky. It goes with practically everything because I personally wear more gold then silver. It is from H&M and I got it on sale for about $5. I highly suggest looking at sale stuff when it comes to this kind of trendy jewelry that may not be in style for a long time.

Also another H&M sale item. This one was around $3 I would say which is a great deal. The beads have a iridescent effect which is really cool up against different colors of clothing. Again, it is nice and junky and defiantly stands out.

When I want a pop of color I grab this bib necklace from Dry Goods. I got it on sale for about $10 and it was part of a buy 2 get one free deal. This magenta color surprisingly compliments a lot of things I have. It's a comfortable necklace and it isn't to bulky.

This necklace is surprisingly from Target. I had never looked at Target's jewelry until I got this necklace. It was on clearance for about $4. It's pretty nice quality and it just adds a bit of sparkle.

The classic bubble necklace, although mine is not from J Crew I got this one at Charming Charlie's for $20. But, I had a $10 off coupon so it was only $10! Which you really can't beat. This piece goes with so much. Although it jingles as you walk I still love it.

This Juicy Couture necklace is my go-to rose gold option. It has very nice stones all around and a pave toggle closure. Sometimes it gets a bit heavy but its worth the pain because I love this piece.

Lastly, a new addition to my collection. This necklace is from J Crew (factory outlet). I am not sure if it was ever at the original J Crew but it's still amazing if it wasn't. You can tell how nicely it's made which is good because even on sale this necklace was not $5. But, the outlet store had 50% the whole store so I had to take advantage of a good sale and pick it up.

How I style them:
Just like my arm candy I am always wearing something around my neck. Here are some of my outfits that feature a bold necklace. Statement necklaces, I think, take your outfits to the next level. It's that one tiny thing that makes everything come together. These outfits are from prior seasons.
