Hot Pink Nails

A punch of pink!

Here is my recent manicure colors. It features a bright magenta pink shade from Essie called the Girls Are Out. The pink has a slight silver sheen to it because it has some silver sparkles in it. For an accent nail I used Butter London's Shambolic. Together they create a fun and bright nail look!

Preppy Diaries: Chinos and Tiffany Blue

Day three of my internship called for some chinos! It was super cold and gross outside so I skipped out on wearing a skirt and wore a this fun pair of patterned chinos. It features navy, magenta pink, white and a light tiffany blue color. So, I paired the pants with a robin egg blue cardigan and a denim button down. For shoes I stole my Mom's Tory Burch Reva flats. These flats are on my wish list for my birthday so we will have to see if that happens! {Until then though I can steal hers :)} For accessories I simply wore a crystal statement necklace, my classic gold watch, and my favorite Alex and Ani bangles of the moment.

What to wear to your internship

"I have nothing to wear!"
As college students get out for summer, most people will start up either a summer job or an internship. The big question is, what should I wear to my internship?!

Well, its a hard question to answer because every office is different! The internship I have currently is pretty casual when it comes to the way we dress. We don't roll into work wearing jeans or sweats of course, but we can look more casual then most offices probably allow. So one of my biggest tips is first feel out your work environment. Your first day it's probably a safe bet to overdress. You don't want to show up and look underdressed! Once you get a feel for what people typically wear you can get a better idea of what you should wear.

Here are three categories you might find in an office.

Business Casual:
For a business casual look you need to be put together but you don't need to show up in a suit or anything crazy! I would suggest a pair of patterned pants like J Crew's chino pants. Pair your fun pants with a bodes top and cardigan. Most offices are cold, even if it is hot outside, so I suggest pairing your ensemble with a sweater or jacket at all times! Layers is always a good idea. If you get hot or cold you can adjust your outfit accordingly. The main thing with business casual is deciding if it is business enough. My main suggestion is just keep things modest. Watch you necklines and your bra straps! Because something tells me your boss isn't wanting to see that! There will be plenty of times to wear your super cute spaghetti strap tanks, don't wear them to work!

Casual:
For my internship, my office is relatively casual. For a casual appropriate outfit I would suggest skirts, dresses, or pants that are professional but they don't have to be as formal. An example of this would be a pair of long shorts with a denim button down. The shorts are casual but they are long enough where they are appropriate. A denim button down is a good option because it is still a collared shirt but it isn't as stuffy as a normal button down may seem. The key to a casual intern look is making sure you still look like you are going to work. Stay away from super short skirts and shorts. For shoes, try and wear ballet flats or nice sandals. Wearing rubber flip flops to the office is a big no no. So either wear a nice pair of leather Sperry's or a classic pair of ballet flats.

Professional:
Now for the hardest category of all, professional. As a 18 year old college student I don't have a lot of clothes I would consider business professional. I tend to buy more fun and colorful pieces. But, most corporate office internships require you to dress the part. So what should you wear? Well, I think a dress is you easiest bet. Its one piece and is easy to put on. Pair your dress with a blazer or cardigan of some sort, especially if it is sleeveless. If you wear a colored dress keep the rest of your look neutral. In the look I created above I paired a blue purple dress with a tan blazer, nude heels, and a simple gold necklace. The key for professional wear is to make sure you stay simple and classic. This isn't the time to wear your new edgy dress. Stick with classic silhouettes, modest hemlines, and heels are probably always a good idea. But, ballet flats are also an appropriate footwear option.

I hope these tips and tricks were helpful to anyone who has an internship this summer!

Summer Staples

~Summer Essentials~
Summer is right around the corner, or you are already on summer break! So, what are the thinks I can't live without in the summertime?
  • Statement necklace: The question is when isn't a statement necklace a must have piece for me? However, in the summer there are super fun and bold necklaces you can wear to spice up your outfit. The brighter the better! J Crew necklaces are a specific must have for me. They are both colorful and fun but also are great quality. To find a cheap J Crew necklace I suggest finding a J Crew outlet!
  • Laptop: My laptop is another thing I cannot live without. Every girl has those summer nights when all they want to do is watch Netflix all day! Also, I have to keep up with all of my social media sites of course. But, another reason this is my must have is I will be taking both economics and a math course over the summer online. So, obviously I need my trusty laptop to complete my courses!
  • McDonalds Diet Coke: Diet Coke is basically my life. Nothing hits the spot like an ice cold McDonalds Diet Coke on a hot summer day.
  • Denim shirt: A denim shirt is a great layering piece when it gets chilly at night. Or if it is a colder summer day simply pair it with a pair of fun bright colored jeans or shorts.
  • Powder: No one likes a shiny face during the summer time. My Maybelline powder will be my best friend this summer as I take on the hot Chicago heat.
  • Kate Spade phone case: A fun phone case is one of my favorite accessories! Some of my favorites are all from Kate Spade of course.
  • Alex and Ani bangle: These bangles are perfect for stacking in the summer time. Pair them with your fun "friendship" style bracelets for a fun eclectic look.
  • High waisted shorts: My go-to shorts in the summer are almost all high waisted. American Eagle's festival short is my favorite denim pair!
  • Kate Spade tote: I have two Kate Spade totes, one small and one larger, and they are my go-to bags in the summer. They are great for keeping all of your essentials in. Also, they are big enough to put a light jacket in incase you get cold white dinning or shopping! (I always get cold in air-conditioned places! Am I the only one?)
  • Sperrys: Sperry Topsiders are the perfect summer shoe. They are comfortable to walk in all day but are still super stylish and cute.
  • Baby lips: Chapped lips is a huge no no. I rely on Baby Lips to keep my nice and soft. Also, they have fun tinted shades that will give your lips a dash of color.
  • Jack Rogers: I'm hoping to get a pair of Jack Rogers for my birthday! The gold ones will go with everything I wear. Not to mention they are adorably cute and very preppy.
  • Body spritz: I am not a big perfume person so I usually turn to a easy body mist to keep myself smelling yummy in the summer time!
  • Bronzer: I am not the tannest person in the world. But, I use Estee Lauder bronzer to keep my skin looking tan and golden.

Preppy Diaries: Neon and Polka Dots

Bright and BOLD

Day two of my internship called for a professional look. More and more I am gravitating towards chino pants. For a more professional look I paired my black and white polka dot pants with a crisp button down. But, work clothes don't have to be boring! So, I wore a bright neon button down to spice up the look. For accessories I wore a pair of bold statement earrings to add color and of course sparkle to the look. Since I had such big earrings I opted to skip out on a big statement necklace. For shoes I need something comfortable to walk in because I walk to my internship from the train. So, I turned to my trusty Sperrys for the job.

A New Bag...

Anchored in cuteness!

A little while back I got this new purse from J Crew. It is super adorable and oh so nautical! I have been obsessed with anything that has an anchor or that is nautical recently and this bag is no exception. It can be a clutch or you can use the chain and carry it like a normal purse. Overall it is a super cute bag and a great addition to my collection.
