Inside London Fashion Week: Mother of Pearl

Here I am in front of the amazing venue space for the Mother of Pearl show. The show was held at the Cafe Royal Hotel which was GORGEOUS! It was amazing. The ceiling and walls were covered in gold and lots of old world details. 

While in London I am lucky enough to experience my first ever Fashion Week! As a fashion student Fashion Week season is better then Christmas (well almost better). Across 4 weeks and 4 cities we are able to see the new and exciting trends for the upcoming season. 

I am extremely thankful to have had the opportunity to volunteer at London Fashion Week this year. I was able to volunteer for two shows: Mother of Pearl and Emilia Wickstead. 

In this post I want to tell you about my experience at the Mother of Pearl show and tell you a little about their Spring/ Summer 2016 collection.....

Sorry for the poor picture quality! I was only able to have my phone on me so the pictures aren't the greatest and the lighting was really odd at the angle I was at! But, I was able to get a lot of shots and a video of the full collection! It was amazing to see the show before anyone else too. 

While I was volunteering I was able to see the dress rehearsal of the show. Unfortunately due to the small venue I wasn't able to see the actual show. But,  I could see the models walk without anyone in the way of my pictures so I was pretty happy. 

To say I'm obsessed with Mother of Pearl is an understatement. I was exposed to the brand when I interned with Purely Fashion a few summers ago. Their collection is full of lots of girly details mixed into classic sportswear. From ruffle dresses and tops to all sequin dresses the collection had a little bit of everything. 

  

Here are a few of my favorite pieces from the collection. I just love all of the feminine and victorian touches to the clothes. My all time favorite piece was this blush leather jacket. On the bottom of the sleeves they had little ties and it was just a really cute touch to a sleek leather jacket.

These sneakers were a major part of the collection. I would wear these everyday if I could! The feminine touch with the ankle strap and bow make the sneakers more girly and cute. Mother of Pearl also had knee high boots that had a small ruffle on the top which I also thought were very cute! 



A peak at the changing area backstage. Each model had a card like this with each look they were wearing and the details.

Sew Cute Abroad: NYFW Roundup

Kate Spade New York: Oh. My. God. I don't care if the Kate Spade collection is super "commercial" I'm in love! Kate Spade never fails to amaze me to create quirky and unique pieces. I'm lusting over the bumble bee and the Dalmatian bag! From adorable purses to gorgeous dresses the Kate Spade Collection wow-ed me as usual. I just wish I could have been there for the free flower bouquets.

Badgley Mischka: I am in love with the feminine and whimsical touches of the Badgley Mischka show! Visions of tweed, metallics, and soft fabrics were the theme of this show. I loved every bit of it!

Carolina Herrera: This gorgeous collection has Dior touches written all over it. I love feminine and classic style and I think Carolina Herrera embodies that. Pleats were a major trend for the NY runway and this collection takes a girly twist on them. Also, I'm loving all of the blush tones of this collection!

Christian Siriano: Christian Siriano is always a favorite of mine. I'm in love with his formal wear pieces embellished with crystals and beading. This fringe skirt and crop top is a major favorite of mine! Fringe was also a major trend on the runway and this is a very chic way to do it. Another dress I love is a blush scallop beaded dress with three quarter sleeves. If only I had the occasion and money to get one of his pieces!

Sew Cute Abroad: Weekend 2 Recap


Hello again! I am a little behind on my weekend recap posts but better late then ever! My second weekend in London I went to the Victoria Albert museum, explored South Kensington, and went the Columbia Road flower market. 

 

For my style journalism class I had to attend the Pleasure and Pain shoe exhibit at the Victoria Albert museum. Sadly photos weren't permitted in the exhibit so I don't have any pictures from inside! But, I can say that it was an amazing collection of shoes. Some of my favorites were Christian Dior heels from the 50's, the Cinderella glass slipper from the 2015 movie, and the Jimmy Choo feather heel from Sex and the City. The Victoria Albert museum is in South Kensington which happens to be the old neighborhood that I lived in while I was in London as a little girl. Little did I know I was standing right next to my old flat! What a small world. Also, I snapped a picture of this bookstore which is where we bought all of my favorite childhood books from London (my mom told me after the fact haha). 


South Kensington is one of my favorite areas in London. There are a lot of restaurants as well as cute little shops. 


We stumbled upon The Hummingbird Bakery which happens to be on a list that I found for best cupcakes around the world! I picked up a Cookies and Creme cupcake and it was delicious. 


Here are a few shots of flowers I spotted while walking around. I love how there are so many blooms in London. There are a lot of cute little flower stands or shops all over the city! It adds a splash of color which of course I love!

Sew Cute Abroad: Columbia Road Flower Market


A little while back I went the Columbia Road flower market in Shoreditch. This flower market is well known in London and is a beautiful sight to see! We went on a warm (warm for London) sunny Sunday, it was perfect weather for the trip. The market was bustling. The place was insanely packed! There were workers shouting bargins for flowers and customers negotiating right back. There were so many amazing blooming colors on the street. From sun flowers, roses, hydrangeas, to peonies there was such a wide variety of flowers, bulbs, bushes, and everything you could imagine! Sadly I wasn't able to pick up any blooms because I don't have a vase at our London flat. But, I was living through the people taking bushels of bouquets with them. Here are a few pictures of the flowers I saw on my trip. Enjoy!

Sew Cute Abroad: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Musical


One my my goals was to go to a musical or play while I was in London! Last week my friend and I attended the musical Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I thought it was a great show! The original movie and the new version are some of my favorite "kid" movies I can't resist all the candy! Truth me told I always get very hungry after watching it. 

This musical was perfect for someone who wanted something familiar, fun, and entertaining. I was really impressed with all of the child actors too! I wish I could sing as good as them now! 

If you are in London, especially with younger siblings, I suggest hitting up this show! Even as a 20 year old I enjoyed it. The set alone is a reason to go! I was very impressed with the technology and the design of the stage. Overall I would give this play 4 out of 5 stars! Sure, it may not be everyone's cup of tea but I very much enjoyed it!

Instagram Round-up

If you don't follow me on Instagram (which you should) I have been posting pictures all about my travels through London. From food, flowers, street art, to everything in between I always post something on Instagram about my adventures! So, recently on Instagram..... 


1 | I showed off my Jadelynn Brooke sunnies at the Columbia Road flower market! I found this ADORABLE Tiffany blue door to snap a pic with them. 2 | My friend Maggie and I have been on the hunt for a hotdog. We found this little shop in Shoreditch that had a decent one (not close to Portillos) but they had AMAZING fries! They were heavily salted (which I love), hot, and crispy. Fries or "chips" in the UK just aren't the same as American fries. They are so bland and it kind of majorly sucks. But, I think I'll survive until I'm back in America. 


3 | One sunday afternoon we ventured to the Columbia Road flower market. It was the perfect day to walk around and pop in and out of small shops. The flowers were all gorgeous! I especially loved the hydrangeas and sunflowers at the market. They were all beautiful! If you love flowers I highly suggest hitting this market up. I'm not one to thrift or go to places like Camden, Brick Lane, or Portobello. So, this was right up my alley. 


4 | My friend Maggie and I heard about a pop-up Birchbox station in Selfridges which is a department store. We got to pick beauty samples from different categories to create our very own Birchboxes! It was a fun thing to do and I can't wait to try out some of these products!! (Check out my latest post to see more on the experience/ what products I got!)
