OOTD: Old School

I'm kicking it back old school, well school girl old school that is. This look is giving me major Gossip Girl vibes! A pleated skirt, layered button down, and a fun play on a sweater vest complete this fun preppy look. Layering button downs under sweaters is perfect for fall or winter. As the weather gets cooler I am learning to appreciate layers more and more!

Who says you can't wear color in fall? Adding pops of color like this bright magenta sweater shell is a fun way to mix up your fall looks. Navy and neutrals are fun, don't get me wrong, but I long for summer days when I am decked out in colorful Lilly. So, I love adding subtle pops of color in my fall and winter looks to keep things interesting and fun.

Layering a necklace with a button down is nothing new for me, but I love this iridescent statement necklace. It brings out all of the pink tones in the top and adds a major does of sparkle and glam to the look.

OOTD: The Ivy League

Is this Harvard? Nope just Iowa State. But, Iowa State in the fall has that Ivy League feeling. With old grand buildings and bright fall leaves I can't help but feel like I'm on a beautiful east coast campus.

During the fall I channel my inner Blair Waldorf and go totally preppy and coastal inspired. My go-to piece of the moment, my Banana Republic blazer. You will see it in an upcoming post on what I wore for Thanksgiving dinner! But, this look is a little more dressy. I paired the blazer with a fun striped dress and ballet flats for the perfect work or class look. The dress is a jersey material so it's super comfy, but still stylish. Adding the blazer gives it that Ivy school vibes and makes the look more pulled together.

For accessories I paired the look with a jewel tone statement necklace. Although the necklace isn't matchy matchy the gems bring out the maroon and navy in the look. No Ivy inspired look would be complete without a KJP bracelet. This look features their monogram leather bracelet! You can pick it up at their Cyber Monday sale for 25% off. I got it last year as a Christmas gift, so it is perfect to gift yourself or for someone on your list.

I also wore my go-to pearl studs my boyfriend gifted me. You can't go wrong with Mikimoto pearls! Pearl studs in general make great splurge worthy gifts. They are a classic piece and will never go out of style. I know I will be wearing these studs for years to come.

This look perfectly sums up my style: classic, preppy, and fun. I love mixing prints and textures along with color to create a fun look.

Breckenridge, CO Snapshots

For my boyfriends Semi-Formal we headed to Breckenridge Colorado for the weekend. It's been years, around 15 to be exact, since I've last visited Colorado. So, I was very excited to head back and explore as an adult! Turns out I had been in Breckenridge in 2001 when my family visited years ago. I don't remember anything, so it was fun to explore the adorable little town and Main Street area.

We spent most of Saturday shopping around and looking in the adorable stores on Main Street. Main Street is the hub of Breckenridge and features boutiques, gift shops, ski gear stores, and local eateries. I was trying to restrain myself from buying all of the amazing clothes and knick knacks! I did a good job and only picked up a few ornaments and some other random things along the way.

One of the gift shops had a ton of cool stickers! I picked up a few for my laptop and for keepsakes.

All around Main Street were these cool benches made of skis or snowboards. I loved this one that had the Colorado flag painted onto it.

Christmas was in full swing in Breckenridge! With snow and ice already on the ground I don't blame them. We lucked out with 50 degree weather though, so I can't complain. It was a gorgeous day to walk around and see the town.

There was a store dedicated to hand made candles! They all had unique designs that glow when lit.

Be on the lookout for my Breckenridge travel guide coming to the blog soon!

Ways to Refresh On the Go! #AnytimeSpa

During the school day I am constantly on the go. From 8am to 6:30pm I am on campus, running around, and in class. So, by the end of class and my extracurriculars I feel gross and tired. But, I carry around a few simple and easy essentials to get you refreshed throughout your school day.

First is my Evian facial spray! I first discovered this spray at Sephora forever ago. But, I never got around to trying it. When I studied abroad and went to Paris this spray was everywhere, and was super cheap, so I gave it a try. I have to say it is worth the cost! This spray is the perfect mid day pick me up. It refreshes your skin and gives you a burst of mist to cool you down. I love using it in the summer, but it is also great for the fall and winter months to keep your skin from getting dry. Evian facial spray is the perfect solution to refresh yourself on the go and get that #AnytimeSpa feel.

To use the spray you simply spritz a little onto your face or skin and you feel instantly refreshed! It's also super discrete so feel free to use it anywhere your day takes you. Not only will it leave you refreshed, but it revives your makeup. This size is perfect for storing at the office or in your tote or backpack. But, I also have a smaller size which fits perfectly into any travel makeup bag.

A few other products I keep with me include powder, concealer, lip balm, and a Tide to go stick to refresh myself throughout the day. My Tide to go stick is perfect for if you have a spill on your clothes, and I love touching up midday with some powder and concealer as my makeup fades and wears. Carrying a hairbrush or makeup wipes can also be helpful to refresh yourself during the day.

What is your favorite way to use your Evian facial spray to get your #AnytimeSpa? Let me know in the comments! Also, don't forget to enter the giveaway at the end of this post to get your own Evian facial spray.

What I Wore: To meet KATE SPADE!

Last weekend I met Kate Spade. Yup you heard that right! Kate Spade, the creator of the popular brand was visiting a local Des Moines mall to promote her upcoming line. Obviously when you are meeting one of your style and fashion icons you have to dress the part. So, I took inspiration from the Kate Spade brand for my ensemble.

The centerpiece for my look was this embellished top I picked up a while back from Francesca's. It is one of my favorite tops because it combines sparkles and pink, aka the dream combination! To keep things simple I paired the top with plain black pants and a pair of fun flats.

Naturally, I accessorized with all things Kate Spade. Square glitter studs, my go-to Kate Spade watch, and my M initial necklace complete the look. To top it all off I carried my all time favorite Kate Spade bag.

After meeting Kate Spade we headed to Exile Brewing Company in Des Moines. I've been dying to go and it certainly lived up the expectations. We ordered a ton of apps and shared them with everyone at the table. 10/10 would recommend Exile for a fun easy dinner or lunch!

What I wore:
Shirt: Francesca's
Pants: J Crew
Shoes: Dune London
Purse: Kate Spade
Necklace: Kate Spade
Bracelets: Alex and Ani, Kate Spade
Earrings: Kate Spade
Sunglasses: Ray Bans
Watch: Kate Spade
Location: Exile Brewing Company; Des Moines, IA

Weekend Snapshots

Between meeting Kate Spade, attending my sororities date party, and having a fun lunch in Des Moines this past weekend was a ton of fun! Here are a few snapshots from this past weekend....

Apps, on apps, on apps! We filled up on some delicious appetizers at Exile Brewing Company. Everything was to die for! But, our favorites were the Buffalo Chicken Bites and the Cheese Curds.

My sorority's date party theme was reality TV! So, we went as Shark Tank. I picked up this fun two piece set from Tobi and my shark hat was from the Halloween section at Target. My boyfriend and I always watch Shark Tank together so it seemed like the perfect show to go as.

What did you do this weekend? Let me know in the comments!

I MET KATE SPADE!

You read that title correctly... I met the Kate Spade!! Despite living in Iowa during the school year, this is one thing that came to Iowa that I was so excited for! Kate Spade is my all time favorite designer so when I heard she was coming to our local Von Maur I had to make the trip.

Kate Valentine Spade is creating a brand new line and everything was gorgeous. From funky shoes to classic handbags, the line is a must-have for everyone and anyone. If you mix subtle touches of traditional Kate Spade with a ton of sophistication you get Kate Spade's new line.

To say I was excited to meet Kate Spade would be an understatement. It is so cool to get to meet people in the fashion industry that have accomplished so much.

Hask Shampoo Review

Recently, my hair hasn't been the greatest. It gets super greasy and gross even right after I wash it. So, I've been trying out a ton of different shampoos and conditioners to see if I can find one that works better for me.

My latest try is the Superfruit Healthy Hair Shampoo and Conditioner from Hask Beauty. This shampoo is actually pretty incredible. After using it for one use my hair felt softer and healthier. My hair was shiny and smooth, but it didn't leave a gross residue behind.

Rich ingredients like Amazonian cupuaƧu butter and acai berry add richness and a great sent to your hair. The shampoo lathered well and was easy to rinse out, which is important to me. Compared to my old Herbal Essence shampoo, this shampoo seemed to work much better! To add, it didn't leave my hair feeling gross the next morning.

I know what your thinking, I can't afford this designer shampoo. Wrong! It is actually under $17! So not to worry, this isn't some high end shampoo for $20+. I've learned that trying non-mainstream brands pays off in the long run.

With all of my hair troubles recently I was happy that this shampoo fixed them! It's crazy how changing up your shampoo and conditioner can change your hair. I always recommend
