Pretty Pastels

Pastels are always a huge trend in the spring. Personally I love wearing light and girly colors. So, how can you adapt this major trend to your style? Most people probably think pastels only work if you are a girly girl. Wrong! Anyone and everyone can rock a pastel look. Here are 6 outfit ideas to inspire you for warmer weather and spring! (Which will hopefully come soon)

My pastel must haves:
So many pastels so little time! Here are some of my pastel must haves. Every girl needs pastel in their closet! Whether it is a pair of Sperry's, some shades, or a statement necklace pastel is in.

Burberry Spring 2014

Burberry takes spring with pastels and details.
Recently, I have been obsessing over various fashion weeks and designer collections. Burberry's spring collection is for sure no exception. This collection is full of unique textures and patterns mixed with one of my favorite classic spring trends, pastels.

The look on the left worn by Cara is one of my favorite looks from the collection. I love how the jacket is see through. It's something that is usually not done but I am kind of obsessed with the idea of a cute and chic rain coat. Also, the look on the right is perfect in my eyes. It has my two favorite colors purple and green incorporated into the look.

{Cara= perfection!}

{Loving all the detail work on the skirts of the collection. I like how they make a pattern from sequins and gems against the lace or sheer skirt.}

Burberry Spring 2014 Inspired Makeup Look

Burberry's spring collection included a super pink and simple makeup look. THis look is super easy to re-create and would be perfect for any spring day.

What you will need:
  1. An eyeshadow base: this will help you pink color really stand out on your eyelids. However this step isn't needed.
  2. Some sort of pink eyeshadow: pink eyeshadow is the main focus of this look. You can use multiple pink shades to create a more dimensional look or you can simply use one shade.
  3. A light pink lipstick: in the eye look it shows a light natural pink lip color so just use something that you already have. Or use a slightly tinted pink lip balm.

Steps:
  1. First apply your basic foundation routine. This may include concealer, foundation, and a pressed powder.
  2. Next take your eye shadow primer and apply it to your eye lids. This will make your pink eyeshadow more pigmented and help it stand out.
  3. Then it is time to apply your pink eyeshadow! First apply a coral pink shade. This will be your base color. After take a brighter pink shade to accent the center of your lid. This will create a super unique eye look for spring.
  4. After applying your shadows to your lid take a thin brush and apply the same base shadow under your lower lash line. This will create a smokey yet light eye look.
That is your completed Burberry inspired look! This look is not only super pink but nice and fresh for spring.

Lilly Pulitzer Spring 2014

Lilly Pulitzer's new collection is full of gorgeous new prints, classic white dresses, and fun unique pieces. It's all that we love about Lilly and more.

Here are some of my favorite pieces that are available on Lilly Pulitzer's website right now!

Left: This cropped blazer is super adorable! It kind of reminds me of a Chanel blazer except this one is obviously a fraction of the cost. The combination of the pinks, purples, and some blue in the jacket will make it easy to pair with simple pieces for spring.
Right: A navy nautical dress is a great staple for spring. You could dress this up or down and even wear it in the winter with some tights.

Left: In this collection there are a ton of beautiful white dresses! These would be great to buy and to keep for rushing if you are in a sorority. There are great silhouettes to choose from that are super flattering.
Right: I am loving this patterned floral blouse. It is super classic without being old and frumpy. I like the bold print and colors in this Lilly pattern as well. Pair this top with white or normal jeans and you have a great spring look.

J Crew Fall 2014 vs Spring 2014

Spring 2014

J Crew's newest spring collection is full of pattern, color, and texture. I'm loving how light and airy the colors and the designs are! I've had to many cold days in Iowa that I am ready for spring. However, today was super nice out so I think spring is slowly on it's way.

But, I am loving this new collection. Lets be honest though, when don't I like J Crew? The answer is never. One of the main things I noticed in the looks in this collection is how they mixed patterns. One of the main things I noticed was mixing stripes with floral. I think this look is super cute and chic at the same time. Most people are afraid to mix prints but spring is all about being bold and fun. So try it out! Don't be afraid to mix it up and try something new.

I am also loving the variety of pants they are showing. The patterned floral pants and then the green distressed pants are unique and would be a great addition to an outfit.

I spy some graphic tees! J Crew t-shirts are basically the only t-shirts I wear. I enjoy the fun and cute sayings they put on them like the two pictured above (right side). Also, there is a super cool tribal inspired print that they show on the shirt and shorts. It's bold and bright without being to overpowering.

I am in LOVE with the look farthest to the left and the look second from the right! If I could have them right now I would be completely fine with that.

Here are three looks inspired from the collection! All of these looks would be great for going to class, out to eat, or to hangout with friends.

Fall 2014
The fall 2014 J Crew collection is full of great pieces. I love how much texture there is in all of the looks. From faux fur to leather there is a little bit of everything in this collection. Also the colors are super rich and dark.

The look on the left is super menswear inspired. I love the little bow tie in the look! I can assure you I will be rocking that trend next fall. Also, can we talk about this fabulous fur piece? It's a little out there but I would totally wear it (would anyone else or is just me....)

I love the darker floral print pant with a plaid scarf!  Not to mention the super unique silhouette of the dress on the left. It has a drop waist, v-neck, and exaggerated pleats that make is super structured.

So there you have it! There are my thoughts on the Spring and Fall 2014 J Crew collections.

Spring Trends: Accent Collared Shirts

Accent Collared Shirts

Spring fashion is just around the corner! I don't know about you but I am so ready for spring and warmer weather. Today in Ames it is about negative 20 degrees without wind chill! So, I want the warmer weather and a change from my scarves and heavy coats.

A major trend for spring is collared or oxford shirts. Specifically shirts with accent collars. This trend is super easy to achieve without trying very hard at all. In fact, you might already have one of these shirts in your closet.

I created three looks with three different types of styles. The girly option pairs a collared shirt with a pair of pastel high waisted shorts. It creates a light and fun look. The wild option incorporates a cheetah print collar. This look is ideal if you want a hint of sass and edge. The last look is for someone who is edgy with a hint of boho chic. With the leather accent collar it adds a touch of edge. But, if you wear a fun colorful chain necklace it brightens up the otherwise dark look.

You could even wear these looks right now! Simply pair the shorts or skirt with tights and the sleeveless shirts with a cardi or oversized sweater. So, if you are eager for spring simply take this trend and start it early. Maybe it will change the weather..... just kidding it will probably be cold forever :(

My Favorite Things: Kate Spade New Arrivals!

I had a break in my classes the other day so of course I decided to browse my favorite site, Kate Spade, for new arrivals. Here are some of the adorable/ amazing things I found.

Both of these purses are DARLING! I have a bigger bag on my wishlist for my birthday (my birthday is in June but a girl has to plan ahead for such an occasion.) I love the one on the left because of the unique outside pockets. I haven't seen the purse in person but if they actually open that would be so handy! There is a place to keep everything on hand and readily available. Then the purse on the right is totally cute. I love the simple black and white and who doesn't love a bow?

Okay, so I know I can't afford full price Kate Spade clothing... but a girl can dream! But, I am totally obsessed with this embellished cardi along with this bow tie top. I think they would be super cute paired together. I am for sure going to be looking for a dupe for these two pieces.

I'm also loving this color block tank. It's super bold and not to mention bright. It would be a fun piece to have during the spring.

Can we please talk about this necklace? It is super fun and I love how oversized it is. (Actually its the perfect size its not to big!)

Right now Kate Spade has some darling accessories! I'm especially loving this bangle and these dainty ice cream cone earrings.
