OOTD: Sweater dress

The best time to wear a sweater dress? All the time! Well maybe not all the time but for sure in the fall time. I am in love with this creme sweater dress. I purchased it last year but I am just starting to find the right moments to wear it. In this look I styled it with a pair of printed polka dot tights. If you have noticed I love wearing fun and printed tights. I think wearing a simple dress with fun tights really makes your outfit pop. I paired the look with wedge ankle booties that I got forever ago.

For accessories I wore one of my favorite J Crew statement necklace. I love this one because it has a lot of pretty jewel tones which makes it a great go-to necklace in the fall. Then I also wore a pair of brown pearl earrings. These are always a great option if I want to mix it up from my favorite classic pearl studs.

OOTD: Aquamarine

Aqua in Action
How can you dress up a dress in a super girly way? Well here is one way! I added ultra girly accessories to this normally modern dress to create a fun and girly look. First I styled my hair in a donut bun. I feel like this hair style automatically gives you a girly touch. I used a hair donut that I purchased at Urban Outfitters. It works wonders.
For accessories I chose to wear a chunky black statement necklace to accent the black piping around the the bodice of the dress. My heels feature a fun bow and round toe for a feminine look. Overall, this look is super and perfect for going to my internship. Its classy but is super fun and bright.

Kate Spade Havana Collection

Take an adventure
Kate Spade is doing a bunch of collections that are kind of travel themed. Their newest one is Havana. It is super tropical and almost jungle inspired. It has a lot of greens, browns, and cremes. I am loving a lot of the pieces form this collection! So take a peek at my favorites from the collection.....

New Obsession

Pastel love
I recently picked up a new handbag and let my say I am OBSESSED with it! It is this light purple Kate Spade bag. It has both a handle then a cross body strap which makes it super versatile. The main reason why I love it is number one the color then number two the scallop detailing. It makes it super girly and preppy. Also, the interior features an adorable bow lining. Overall, I am so happy with this purchase. I debated for a while if I should get it or not but I knew I would regret it if I didn't scoop it up. If my personality and style had to be described in a bag... this would be it for sure!

Trend Magazine Release Party

Trend Magazine: Spring 2014
A few weeks ago I had the Trend magazine release party. Trend is a student run magazine on my college's campus. I currently serve as the In-Studio assistant on the exec board. I am super proud of how my shoot turned out. It is everything that I could have wanted!

The Trend release party consists of pictures, fashion, and fun and it is when the magazine is officially released to everyone! This was also the first time that I had seen my spread for the magazine. It was super fun to take pictures and to visit with everyone.

My Pi Beta friends representing at the release party! Eileen (right) my grand big is the Trend for Men editor and my best friend Cassidy (left) is the new accessories assistant for the fall 2014 issue!

Our wonderful Pi Phi friend Kaitlyn was a model in the fashion show at the release party. She of course looks gorgeous in this green floral dress.

OOTD:

For my outfit of the day I wore a fun and bright coral pink dress. It has accents of white lace which adds a super feminine touch. For accessories I wore a bold statement necklace because my dress was more simple. My heels are just a basic pair of nude pumps. I added a hint of coral with my bracelet from J Crew. Overall, this look made me feel like I was going to a tea party but in a very good and chic way.

OOTD: Genologie Lovin

Geneologie Lovin
You may have seen in my other posts that I am my sororities t-shirt chair! So I am in charge of making any t-shirts for events or just for fun. The lovely company Geneologie gifted us these SUPER cute tanks for working with them on our t-shirts! Naturally, my fellow t-shirt chair and bestie wore them on the same day.

I styled my shirt with a pair of dark wash high waisted jeans and a distressed denim button down. The shirt added an extra layer because it was a little chilly this day. For accessories I wore a bold yellow bubble necklace to accent the yellow in the coral tank. On my feet I wore a simple pair of brown flats.

My friend Cassidy styled her look similar but wore a pair of simple black leggings and tall brown boots. Then she finished her look with a white statement necklace.

My look:

Shirt: American Eagle
Jeans: American Eagle

Vickers Bows: The Serena Vanderwoodsen Bow

Sarah Vickers does it again...
I swear Sarah Vickers reads my mind. As you may know Gossip Girl is one of my obsessions. First they created the Blair Waldorf Vickers Bow and now they have one for Serena. Both are equally as cute so I am for sure going to try and get both! This one is super cute with a bright pink bow and a navy band. I could picture this matching a lot of what I wear because lets be honest I wear a lot of pink and navy!

Formal Ready Looks

Spring formals are coming around the corner! I recently had my formal last weekend. But, there are still many formals to come. So, the big question is what should you wear for a fabulous formal night?

Well, depending on your school you can go either more casual or very formal. At my school I would say it is in between more casual and formal. Most girls wore a fun cocktail dress and a great pair of heels. If your school is similar here are three looks that will be formal ready.

Edgy: Lets say your not the typical "sorority girl". Well, you can still rock studs and spikes at your formal. Wear a fun dress that has lots of cut outs. This will create a cool and unique look. Pair your dress with a bold and punk statement necklace for a different type of "glam". For shoes, pick something with a metallic and some straps. If you want to carry a clutch carry a fun spiked one. With all of these components you will for sure stand out at your formal.

Girly: But, what if you are a super feminine girly girl? Well, formal will be a piece of cake! For a fun girly look stick with a fun silhouette. Something that hugs your waist tight will be super flattering. This dress also has a fun stripe pattern. But, if you want to keep things more simple find a solid color frock. For accessories find a cute pair of bold earrings that match your dress. Then for shoes wear a fun pair of pumps. These black ones have a fun bow accent that no girly girl could resist.

Boho: If boho is more your scene try and find a fun lace number. This one has a unique sleeve cut out detail so it adds an extra special touch. For accessories find a fun rhinestone head band to wear across your head. Add a stack of bangles and stud earrings for extra sparkle. Then for shoes wear a strappy sandal with thicker straps.

Pretty Pastels

Pastels are always a huge trend in the spring. Personally I love wearing light and girly colors. So, how can you adapt this major trend to your style? Most people probably think pastels only work if you are a girly girl. Wrong! Anyone and everyone can rock a pastel look. Here are 6 outfit ideas to inspire you for warmer weather and spring! (Which will hopefully come soon)

My pastel must haves:
So many pastels so little time! Here are some of my pastel must haves. Every girl needs pastel in their closet! Whether it is a pair of Sperry's, some shades, or a statement necklace pastel is in.

Preppy Diaries: Monogram Monday

On Monday I sported a fairly recent purchase of mine which is a M sweater from Old Navy. I think this is super cute and not to mention preppy! I love the combination of the grey and the pink and it is also a great layering piece. When the weather is in the negative 20s you have to layer up. So I paired the sweater with a pink, purple, and red plaid shirt. I simply paired the layered look with a pair of dark wash jeans and my signature brown boots.

For an extra pop of color I added a bold pink statement necklace. Also, I wore my Michael Kors watch and Alex and Ani bangles. Then another small touch in the look is my pearl stud earrings.

Overall, I am obsessed with super preppy sweater. It was also at a great price!

Spring Trends: Accent Collared Shirts

Accent Collared Shirts

Spring fashion is just around the corner! I don't know about you but I am so ready for spring and warmer weather. Today in Ames it is about negative 20 degrees without wind chill! So, I want the warmer weather and a change from my scarves and heavy coats.

A major trend for spring is collared or oxford shirts. Specifically shirts with accent collars. This trend is super easy to achieve without trying very hard at all. In fact, you might already have one of these shirts in your closet.

I created three looks with three different types of styles. The girly option pairs a collared shirt with a pair of pastel high waisted shorts. It creates a light and fun look. The wild option incorporates a cheetah print collar. This look is ideal if you want a hint of sass and edge. The last look is for someone who is edgy with a hint of boho chic. With the leather accent collar it adds a touch of edge. But, if you wear a fun colorful chain necklace it brightens up the otherwise dark look.

You could even wear these looks right now! Simply pair the shorts or skirt with tights and the sleeveless shirts with a cardi or oversized sweater. So, if you are eager for spring simply take this trend and start it early. Maybe it will change the weather..... just kidding it will probably be cold forever :(

OOTD: Brown and Blush

With Christmas over I have many new things I am working into my style. For example my blush colored tights. The color is super unique but I think I will be able to wear them a lot.

I paired the blush tights with a taupe brown dress. This dress is super flattering and I got it for a super good deal (as usual I'm a bargain hunter). To accessorize the look I wore my new favorite statement necklace. (Lets be honest I love all my necklaces but this one is extra fabulous.) The necklace has subtle pink tones which helps tie in the look with the blush tights.

Of course my arm candy had to be represented with my new Michael Kors watch.

I styled my hair in a top knot to keep it out of my face and to prevent the annoying static! But, it makes the look extra girly and chic. And of course a bold bright lip was a must for this look.

Dress: American Eagle
Tights: Nordstrom
Shoes: Target
Bracelets: Alex and Ani & Charming Charlie's
Watch: Michael Kors (bought at Nordstrom)

{As I said I am in love with this necklace! It is super bold but the colors are subtle so it's not to over powering. And I find myself reaching for it often because it goes with so much of my wardrobe!}

{Making faces. The usual.}

{I am obsessed with Alex and Ani bangles. They are super dainty and girly. The M bangle on the bottom is from Charming Charlies and was on sale for only $4! So, if you think Alex and Ani is a little expensive there are cheaper alternatives.}
