Formal Ready Looks

Spring formals are coming around the corner! I recently had my formal last weekend. But, there are still many formals to come. So, the big question is what should you wear for a fabulous formal night?

Well, depending on your school you can go either more casual or very formal. At my school I would say it is in between more casual and formal. Most girls wore a fun cocktail dress and a great pair of heels. If your school is similar here are three looks that will be formal ready.

Edgy: Lets say your not the typical "sorority girl". Well, you can still rock studs and spikes at your formal. Wear a fun dress that has lots of cut outs. This will create a cool and unique look. Pair your dress with a bold and punk statement necklace for a different type of "glam". For shoes, pick something with a metallic and some straps. If you want to carry a clutch carry a fun spiked one. With all of these components you will for sure stand out at your formal.

Girly: But, what if you are a super feminine girly girl? Well, formal will be a piece of cake! For a fun girly look stick with a fun silhouette. Something that hugs your waist tight will be super flattering. This dress also has a fun stripe pattern. But, if you want to keep things more simple find a solid color frock. For accessories find a cute pair of bold earrings that match your dress. Then for shoes wear a fun pair of pumps. These black ones have a fun bow accent that no girly girl could resist.

Boho: If boho is more your scene try and find a fun lace number. This one has a unique sleeve cut out detail so it adds an extra special touch. For accessories find a fun rhinestone head band to wear across your head. Add a stack of bangles and stud earrings for extra sparkle. Then for shoes wear a strappy sandal with thicker straps.

OOTD: Chicago Adventures

The past few days I have been spending my time with one of my best friends from school! She came down from Iowa to visit me here in Illinois.

(She is making her own fashion blog so stay tuned for colabs with her!)

While she was here we stayed in a fabulous hotel suite downtown on Michigan Avenue! It was such a fun and fabulous weekend.

For our first day in Chicago I wore my new faux fur vest. This kept me super warm seeing how it was basically 10 degrees the whole time we were in the city! I paired it with my go-to denim button down and a pair of black and gold skinnies.

The skinny jeans have a super cool cheetah print in a gold metallic color. The print is subtle but still shows while your wearing them.

For accessories I wore my favorite J Crew necklace that I got on super clearance at the store! It was only around $12! Can't beat that deal. And of course I wore my favorite arm candy and Michael Kors watch. To finish the look I wore a bold red lip. I love how the red pops from the otherwise dark look.

I was super excited that a Vineyard Vines store opened on Michigan Avenue! There bags are so darling!

We ate dinner at Volare which is an Italian restaurant. It was AMAZING! The best service and food I have had in a long time. Not to mention this adorable dessert!

OOTD: Big and Little Dinner Date

Last Saturday I had a lovely dinner with some of my fellow Pi Phis and of course my Big.

To dinner I wore a pair of bright coral skinny jeans. I transitioned them into fall by pairing them with a tribal inspired denim button down. There are small embroidery details that make the shirt a little more special.

My feet were sporting my new favorite Dolce Vita booties. I re-discovered these shoes and now I am kind of obsessed with them. Surprisingly enough these shoes are from the kids department. {Yes I am 18 and wear shoes from the kids section. Hey they are cheaper I get a great deal.}

As usual I wore normal stud earrings, a stack of bangles, and a statement necklace. What else is new right?

Details:

This necklace is super fun and geometric. It is classy but still unique and almost antique looking.

I love the way the ankle booties are a little below the hem of my jeans. {I don't know why I just do}

My wrist is always decked out in some type of stackable creation. This look features some of my all time favorites!

OOTD and A Day in Chicago

July 3rd, 2013:
So, I decided in addition to my outfit of the days I kind of want to share what I did on a certain day. Well, if it is actually interesting. But, this is interesting I promise.

A few of my friends and I decided to head down into Chicago to go the Chicago Institute of Art Museum. My friend is a member there so she was able to get us in for free which was great. The main reason we decided to go was because they had a huge fashion art exhibit. We weren't aloud to take pictures a lot of people got yelled at by security (including us the whole rest of the museum you could take pictures might I add!) so I wasn't able to capture the beauty of everything. However, the paintings, prints, and old magazines were amazing. It was inspiring to see how artists connected fashion into their paintings. Also it was really cool how the museum found the exact dress or a dress similar to a painting and they displayed them right next to each other.

These extremely old dresses had such amazing details and craftsmanship. Something that was shocking also was how tiny the waists were for the mannequins! The corsets they must have had to worn were pretty intense.

The fashion "plates"they called them were also quite interesting. Basically they were old fashion ads that were in very old magazines. But these magazines were bounded and looked a lot like books which was completely different from how ours are today.

Overall, I highly recommend the exhibit to any fashion lover if you are in Chicago. It was a great experience and definitely made me for sure realize how much I really do love and appreciate fashion.

My outfit: It was a rather cold and very rainy day in Chicago so I kept it really casual and I had to wear shoes that were easy to walk in. So I compromised for my favorite colored jeans that are a bright coral or orange color. My denim shirt is my go-to item basically anytime of the year. They truly go with anything and everything. As usual I topped it off with a small statement necklace and a bun to keep my hair from look well to be honest ratchet.

The picture on the left is how wet my jeans and Sperry's were after we had to walk back to the train station. Let's just say it was pouring in Chicago. But, luckily we still got to pick up some Garret's Popcorn. If you want my personal order I got a medium Chicago mix and a small Buttery.
