College Series: Thanksgiving break packing list

Thanksgiving break is right around the corner. Which means it's time to pack and head home! As an out of state student I always struggle with what to bring home. I have a lot of clothes still at home so I don't plan on bringing home a lot of clothing. However there are a few things that I cannot live without for a week! So here is my Thanksgiving break essentials that I am packing in my tote.

1. Knee socks: I am in love with this pair of knee socks! They are from Aerie and I literally live in mine. I have a grey pair but I might have to pick up another pair. When paired with boots they are perfect because they are tall enough to peek out and give a nice detail.
2. Riding boots: My boots are my life. Both of my boots will be coming back with me over break. They are both from Michael Kors and if you have seen any of my posts you have seen my boots. They are a must have for me because I literally wear them on a daily basis. So, these are a must-have when I am packing.
3. A plaid scarf: During break the weather will probably be starting to get cold. My plaid scarf is a must-have to protect myself from the cold Chicago air. Not to mention it is the perfect preppy girl accessory.
4. Black Longchamp bag: My black Longchamp is my go-to bag. It is the perfect size and it goes with everything. If I have to pick one bag to take on break this will for sure be the bag.
5. Brooks Brother's coat: My navy Brooks Brother's quilted coat is my current go-to coat. It has a great fit and is surprisingly super warm for how light it is. Out of all of my coats this will be the coat I will be bringing back home!

So that is my packing list for this break. Obviously I will be adding a few more things but these are going to be my go-to pieces over my week long break!

Favorites of the Week

A weekly update...... Here are a few of my favorites from this past week!

Plaid scarves | If you follow my Instagram you have probably realized that I have a slight plaid obsession and by slight I mean large. This scarf from Target is my life. Not only is it super trendy but also it keeps me super warm. Here in Iowa it is getting painfully cold. So, scarves are a must-have in my wardrobe.

Sperry Topsider watch | I recently picked up this watch at TJMaxx that I have been eyeing for a while now. For around $50 you can't beat the price! Also, the colors basically match everything that I have been wearing recently. Navy is for sure my new black so this navy and green watch compliments a lot of my outfits.

Rocksbox | This week I recently discovered something I think is pretty cool! Rockbox is a jewelry subscription service that basically sends you fabulous jewelry for a flat rate each month. With an invite link you can get one month free. So I got one and I decided that I wanted to see what it was all about. Once I get my first box I am going to decide if I think it is worth to continue. But, I have never done a subscription service like this so I thought why not try it out! Be on the lookout for a post on my first Rocksbox.

FOUR & 1989 | Numbers is clearly a theme here! But these two albums have been my addiction recently. In case you guys didn't know, One Directions newest album officially is out! New One Direction songs will be my saving grace the week leading up to Thanksgiving break. Be on the lookout for a post on my top favorite songs from the album! Also, Taylor Swift's album is still a hardcore favorite. Check out my post on my favorite songs from the album.

Thats my weekly update! What are your favorites from last week? Let me know in the comments!

OOTD: Neon Punch

For a cold fall day I decided to bust out my favorite J Crew pants. This pant is called the Skimmer pant and I am in love! I have a few prints and they are great to dress up or down. They are a more mature piece but I like how they have bold and fun prints. I paired my printed pants with a classic blue oxford. An unexpected color combination I would say but it turned out great!

For an extra pop of color I added a few neon accessories. This included a pair of statement earrings, a bold belt, and a fun silicon Marc by Marc Jacobs bracelet. Then for shoes I kept things simple with a camel colored bootie. These booties are super comfortable and I can last all day in them. Surprisingly I got them from Target for only around $9 a few seasons ago!

My arm candy of the day. I can't go a day without my Alex and Ani bracelets. My go-to ones currently are my Pi Beta Phi bangle and my daughter bangle. Also, my Henri Bendel watch is my favorite of the moment.

Where it's from:
Shirt: Ralph Lauren Polo
Pants: J Crew
Earrings: J Crew
Shoes: Target
Belt: American Eagle
Bracelets: Marc by Marc Jacobs & Alex and Ani
Watch: Henri Bendel

If you couldn't tell I love colorful accessories! They add so much to an outfit. What are your favorite kind of accessories? Let me know in the comments!

OOTD: Fall Ready

Surprise surprise, another plaid scarf. I know my obsession is becoming ridiculous but I can't help it! I recently purchased this scarf from Target last week and I am in love! This scarf is a little more oversized and basically is a blanket scarf. Blanket scarves are a huge trend this season but I didn't feel like spending that much money on one. At around $16 this one was a steal! To add this scarf has a lot of different colors so it goes with a wide variety of outfits.

I paired my plaid scarf with a simple black long sleeve and a pair of textured shorts. To prevent from freezing I also wore a pair of bright red tights. Every time I wear these tights I can't help but feel like Blair Waldorf. Surprisingly I wear them quite a bit during the fall and winter season. For accessories I wore my new Sperry Topsider watch which is a current favorite. It features a navy and green band which matches a lot of what I wear.

To finish the look I slipped on my Tory Burch black flats and wore a skinny gold metallic belt. Also, I threw on some pearl studs and my favorite Alex and Ani bracelets. This outfit is a personal favorite of the moment. I love how all of these components came together to create a fun, preppy, and feminine look.

What I wore:
Shirt: Nordstrom
Shorts: Topshop
Belt: Aerie
Scarf: Target
Tights: Target
Shoes: Tory Burch
Watch: Sperry Topsider
Glasses: Tory Burch
Bracelets: Nordstrom & Alex and Ani

1989: AKA the best album ever

Recently, Taylor Swift released her new album 1989. If you didn't know that I'm not sure what you do with your life..... But regardless this album may be the best thing to grace this planet besides One Direction and Andy Grammer's albums.

You know an album is good when you can't think of one song that you don't like. 1989 is that album. Its literally perfection in my eyes. Since it came out I have had it on repeat. Literally I haven't listened to anything else!

Naturally I have developed a few favorite songs off the album. So, here are my top favorite songs off of the album. (Again they are all great but if you want to buy a few this is my run down!)

  1. Style- I will NEVER get sick of this song. Literally never. I'm not sure if I love this song because it's amazing or that its based off Harry Styles. It's probably a little bit of both. But none the less this song is for sure my number one favorite song. If you had to buy one song off this album buy this one!
  2. Blank Space- This is a VERY close second to Style. This song is so great. It makes me feel super sassy and empowered and who doesn't love that?
  3. All You Had To Do Was Stay- This song is basically the story of my life so I'm pretty sure thats why I love it.
  4. Welcome To New York- As you may know it's basically my life goal to end up in New York. So obviously every time I listen to this song I feel like I'm getting greeted into NY by Taylor Swift which is like a dream come true. But besides that dream scenario the song is super catchy and fun.
  5. Bad Blood- Just like Blank Space this song makes me feel super empowered. Basically I feel like I could take someone down when I'm listening to this song. So basically its perfect. But don't worry I don't plan on harming anyone while listening to this song.
  6. Wildest Dreams- This song reminds me of old Taylor Swift. It kind of has that Enchanted vibe which I love. This is my favorite slower song on the album. Favorite line "He's so tall and handsome as hell". Like hello where do I get myself one of those?
I could honestly go on but I will restrain myself. So there you have it! Those are my top 6 favorite songs off of Taylor's new fabulous album. Which is your favorite song? Let me know in the comments!

OOTN: Beta Semi-Formal

It's semi-formal and formal season in the Greek community which means you have to plan your outfit! This past weekend I went to Beta semi-formal and had a blast! So what did I wear to the occasion?

For the night I wanted to wear a more simple dress with a fun pop of color. So, I wore this awesome dress from Tobi.com. Tobi is a great place to get fun party dresses. This one has a cool neck detail but is still pretty covered. Also, I love how the sleeves flow out and are wider at the bottom. To add a bunch of color I wore a bright pair of violet heels. These pumps have a cool heel design which makes them super unique! Then I completed the look with a fun pair of statement earrings that matched my heels. Also, since the formal was a masquerade theme I did my own DIY mask.

What I wore:
Dress: Tobi
Shoes: Sam Edleman
Mask: DIY
Earrings: Old Navy

Here are the steps I did to make my DIY mask! It is was super easy to make and only took 3 basic steps:
1. First I painted my whole mask purple and let it dry.
2. I gemmed certain sections of the mask to add some sparkle!
3. Then lastly I just coated the whole mask in silver glitter.

Do you have an upcoming formal or semi-formal? Let me know in the comments what you are wearing!

OOTD: Sweater dress

The best time to wear a sweater dress? All the time! Well maybe not all the time but for sure in the fall time. I am in love with this creme sweater dress. I purchased it last year but I am just starting to find the right moments to wear it. In this look I styled it with a pair of printed polka dot tights. If you have noticed I love wearing fun and printed tights. I think wearing a simple dress with fun tights really makes your outfit pop. I paired the look with wedge ankle booties that I got forever ago.

For accessories I wore one of my favorite J Crew statement necklace. I love this one because it has a lot of pretty jewel tones which makes it a great go-to necklace in the fall. Then I also wore a pair of brown pearl earrings. These are always a great option if I want to mix it up from my favorite classic pearl studs.

Where it's from:
Dress: American Eagle
Tights: Old Navy
Shoes: Forever 21
Necklace: J Crew
Bracelets: Henri Bendel & Alex and Ani
Watch: Michael Kors

Sweater dresses are a great comfy option to wear to class! How do you like to style your sweater dresses? Let me know in the comments!
