Preppy Diaries: Floral Fun

Floral + Denim
Lets first start off saying that I had a FABULOUS hair day this day! Maybe its because I took this picture only a little after I did my hair.... but still. It usually doesn't look this fabulous so I had to point it out.
For this ensemble I paired a super fun floral skirt with a simple denim shirt. I wear this denim shirt all the time. You can literally wear it with anything and it is super comfortable. I like how it has a little bit of a Peter Pan collar as well. I paired my skirt and shirt with a bright neon pink belt. This adds an extra bunch of pink to the look. Then for accessories I wore my favorite Jack Rogers sandals as well as simple Kate Spade earrings and some bracelets.

I love this floral print! It is bright without being overpowering.

With the bold printed skirt I kept my accessories super simple and minimal. Well minimal for me....

Sparklers, Fun, and Flags: Fourth of July outfit ideas

The Fourth of July is right around the corner! The month of June literally flew by. But now it is time to figure out what you are gonna wear for the big festivities. Determining your red, white, and blue ensemble kind of depends on what you will be doing on the fourth. Will you be at a classy affair, sitting on the grass watching fireworks, or in and out of the pool all day?

Well, I created three looks that are perfect for any activities you could be doing on the Fourth of July! There is a dressy, casual, and super casual look you can be inspired by.

Dressy: Lets say you are going to a more fancy place for the fourth. Maybe you are going to a nice restaurant, out on a nice boat, I can't think of anything else but maybe you just want to dress up! Well, here is the outfit for you! (I am actually kind of obsessed with this outfit.) I paired a fun pair of navy pom pom shorts with a simple white scallop tank. To add a pop of red to the look I added a bold Baublebar necklace. I love the layered look that this necklace gives. For accessories I chose a bright red leather bag with a neutral espadrille. Altogether it creates a very chic, preppy, and girly Fourth of July look.

Semi-Casual: I know for my Fourth of July I will probably be wondering around my friends town, watching fireworks, and other things of that nature. So, I want something comfy but also super cute. This would be my ideal look for the Fourth of July. I paired a fun pair of scalloped shorts with a simple white tee. Incorporating white into your outfit, I think, is super important! Mainly because you will be out in the hot sun and a white shirt will keep you cooler then a blue or red shirt. For shoes I paired them with these super fun Jack Rogers because they are my obsession. Then lastly I added a KJP red, white, and blue bracelet for an extra patriotic touch. Plus I am also obsessed with KJP.

Casual: There are a lot of people who are probably going to be on the beach, at the pool, or on a lake for the Fourth of July. So, this outfit is perfect to just throw on over a bathing suit! I am loving these super cute American flag running shorts! These are a huge trend it feels like and I love them. I paired the shorts with just a plain white tank (you could do red or blue too!) then a pair of white Keds and then a simple blue hair bow. If you are going for a preppy casual look this is your ideal 4th of July outfit.

OOTD: Mixing Prints

All mixed up!
For this work look I decided to mix it up a bit. And by that I mean mixing prints. Sometimes I am afraid to mix prints because some people are probably like what is that girl wearing?! But, I decided that this look gets the job done in a very subtle way. I paired a navy and white polka dot dress with this super fun white and navy striped scarf. By sticking in the same color family it makes the look less intimidating in my opinion. I paired the look with a nude sandal and simple gold accessories to complete the look.

What is your favorite way to mix prints? Let me know in the comments!

Summer Style: Orange ya glad?

Juicy and bright
Orange has been a big trend for summer this year. Usually I am not a big orange or yellow person but they are both growing on me. These looks all incorporate some type of orange. Whether it is in a bag, shirt, or skirt or in an accessory anyone can incorporate orange into their everyday style.

Look 1: This look is pretty simple and easy. By pairing an orange top with jeans it creates a casual cute look. You can dress it up a bit with leather sandals and a bold statement necklace. For an extra orange pop wear a darker orange nail polish.

Look 2: For a more subtle orange look wear a simple solid color dress, I suggest black, and carry and orange handbag. I love this one from Henri Bendel. The size is perfect and the tassel is a super cute touch. Accessorize your look with a long gold necklace and metallic sandals for an easy summer look.

Look 3: A more edgy look includes an orange skirt with a white halter crop top. Pair this summery pair with a stack of orange friendship bracelets. This combination makes for an edgy boho look. Complete the look with leather sandals.

Obsessed with chino shorts!

Crazy for Chino
This summer I have been trying to up my wardrobe. In other words I want more classic pieces that will last me more then one summer. I am kind of over the whole high waisted denim shorts thing. Of course I still have some and I will still wear them, but my go-to short this summer is chino shorts from J Crew! These shorts are PERFECT. They come in multiple lengths (depending on your comfort level/ age). My mom loves the 7 inch shorts and I usually go for the 3, 4, or 5 inch. So, no matter what they have a great length for you. Also, I have gotten all of mine on sale! The purple ones below were $10 then the neon pink ones were only $18. If you look hard enough you can find good deals on these!

How I style them:
Here are two previous OOTDs that feature my fabulous chino shorts. How would you style them?

My collection:
My collection contains a neon pink and green pair, classic white, a pastel purple pair, and a chambray polka dot pair. I am slowly building up a pretty good collection!

Sunglass Strap Addict

The perfect summer accessory

A while back my bestie sent me a pair of Lilly Pulitzer sunglass straps or croakies. Ever since then I became obsessed with them! They are really the perfect summer accessory. Not only are they fashionable but they are practical. In case you don't know, croakies basically keep your sunglasses around your neck when you aren't wearing them. These are great if you are constantly taking your sunglasses on and off. I wear these basically every time I leave the house. Pair them with an aviator sunglasses for the perfect summer look.

Sunglass straps are perfect for anyone! They have great styles for a guy in your life (possible fathers day gift?) or for yourself. I love this American flag sunglass strap for a guy. It's super patriotic and great for the summer, not to mention Fourth of July! Then for girls I love the Lilly Pulitzer croakies. They are bright, colorful, and super fun for any summer day. The Vineyard Vines croakies pictured are great for any girl or guy. They come in a bunch of colors and are a great classic sunglass strap to have.

OOTD: Neon and Black

Seeing Neon
As you may tell I have been wearing a lot of neon lately! I don't know if its the summer heat or it's bold look but neon is for sure a summer must have for me. This look includes a bright white and neon tribal print scarf. I got this scarf for only $7 at American Eagle when it was on sale. Hey if you can get 60% off sale items you have to get it! I paired it with a simple black skirt and tank so the scarf could be the main center piece of the look. For accessories I wore some bright jewels including bold statement earrings and a stack of neon bangles.

{How do you feel about summer scarfs? Comment your thoughts down below!}

{Found one of my favorite Kate Spade bangles the other day. It has a few bright neon shades all around it. This will go great with all of my neon pieces I have been wearing.}

Preppy Diaries: Hot pink and bows

Neon kick
Recently I have been wearing a lot of neon! I don't know if it is because it is summer or all of a sudden I am into bright colors but I am kind of liking it. I am also liking this super girly and preppy ensemble that I wore this lovely day. For my shorts I picked a bright neon pink chino short and paired it with a simple white shell top. The top is super cute because it has three bows that go down the front which gives it an extra girly touch. To tie in the pink color I wore a pair of bold statement earrings that have pinks and purple shades in the stones. I kept my shoes comfortable because this day I drove down to my friends house in Bettendorf for the weekend. So I wanted to stay comfortable in the car. In this look I am also wearing my go-to sunglasses that I always keep on my Lilly Pulitzer croakies. Litearlly sunglass straps are the best invention because you can just keep them around your neck and they are perfect for if you going in and out of places. Not to mention they come in cute patterns! I completed the look with my usual watch and bracelets of course.
